Will steam lock the game if I get the hard copy early?

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 12:11 am

I'm expecting Fallout 4 to be delivered in my mailbox later today(Monday the 9.).
Will steam lock the game until november 10 even though I have installed the game with the disc?
Reason I'm asking is because I've read that the gamedisc only has some content on it and the rest needs to be downloaded from steam.

Yep, probably can't get the entire game until steam unlocks it. Not 100% on that though.

the PC DVD does not contain the whole game.

Topping it up from Steam is required.

You need to activate the game on Steam even if the disk has the whole data. Steam will unlock it when it becomes available for your region.

My friend got it on friday on the PS4. But that's only 30fps, haha.

I don't believe much of what I read about now but I just read that Xbox and PS4 will have to re-download the game on release. Not sure how true that is however.

Regardless of whether you get a hard copy or digital copy on PC, it is all DRM through Steam. The game won't release on Steam until 12:01am EST.

The only hard copies that allow you to break the street date are the consoles. Digital purchases on consoles are also gated by the release window.

Ack - quoting a Mod...

As much as I respect Summers input, XBox One and PS 4 users can run Fallout 4 now without ever connecting to the Internet.

So any reload would be optional, and may be required to pick up any major fixes - if you want them.

If it is such a major fix that it requires a repackage, everyone on consoles may well want it.

What Summer is referring to is a known issue that has recently been plaguing the Xbox One. If you pre-loaded Fallout 4 before October 23 I believe and did not have Instant On Mode active, you will have to re-download the entire game. The pre-load back then was not the full game and there were placeholder files, thus it will not function at the release date.

That is only for preloads (there is a pinned topic at the top on this).

It should not apply to those that installed the complete game from disk.
