Will the Dark Brotherhood be a threat to the PC?

Post » Wed Dec 09, 2009 12:12 am

Okay, so in Fallout 3 and New vegas, you could get different factions going after you depending on how you played upon the morality scale. Think this will also be implemented in Skyrim?

I'd love to see my holy paragon of a knight getting ambushed by Bark Brotherhood assassins because I was just too much of a good guy. :D

I'm hoping the Dark Brotherhood and the Necromancers will be joinable factions that serve as counterpoint to some more law-abiding guild factions.

Hoping also for some serious bad blood between the joinable factions

I hope the Dark Brotherhood's Night mother gets her soul trapped by a necromancer. I want to serve Sithis, not some dead guild master. It would be cool to see multiple assassin factions going against each other. :ninja:

No, the PC will be a threat to the Dark Brotherhood. When Dark Brotherhood assassins can breath fire and slay dragons, let me know. :P

well hopefully a mod can do that. remember in oblivion, there was this mod that when your fame is way higher than your infamy, it causes you to be attacked by morag tong assassins after you have slept. don't remember which one it is but modders can do something like that when the game is out. hopefully, they'll script it better than in oblivion. i had my character slept in the castle in the sky mod. makes no sense that the morag tong could get in when i have the only key and i used the console command to lock the doors?

It actually kind of annoyed me that I got people trying to kill me only because of my alignment in Fallout 3, not that I object to people trying to hunt me down in games, but the way it was handled, it seemed more like they just wanted to kill me because of my alignment, I mean, I could understand it for getting attacked for being evil because to get evil karma, I'd obviously had to have done some bad things, and as a result, I can see some people wanting to kill me for that, but there isn't really any reason why someone should want me dead just for trying to be a good person, I mean, I could understand if, in earning my good karma, I ended up offending some people and they're out for revenge, but since it was based purely on your karma, not your actual actions, it kind of just feels like someone just has an irrational hatred of people who help others and wants anyone who does so dead. If people start hunting me, I want it to be for something I actually did that someone might object to, and maybe Radiant Story could be used for that. Still, I think the Dark Brotherhood would be a joinable faction, but that doesn't necessarily mean we cant become their enemies, provided there are conflicting factions in Skyrim, and we can neither confirm or deny that at this point.

Well, they did try to kill you in Morrowind.

If you had the Tribunal expansion, yes, but in that case, there was a particular story reason for it, they didn't just do it because they didn't like your face. I must also say that the way this was implemented gave the impression that they were not very good assassins, considering that every time they attacked, you'd be given a message saying "You are awakened by a loud noise." Does the Mournhold branch of the Dark Brotherhood just have some kind of code of honor that requires them to loudly announce their presence to targets before trying to kill them our something? That kind of seems to defeat the purpose of hiring an assassin.

Well, it probably shouldn't be a surprise that the scripting wouldn't take into account things from another mod that aren't supposed to happen in the original game to begin with.

I think people would rather have the choice of joining them than fighting them so I doubt they will attack you.. maybe if you end up joining another faction it is possible i suppose. I just don't think they will do it though.

Likewise. If I'm going to have someone coming after me, I want there to be a good reason for them to be doing so. Which would mean that somehow I've pissed them off enough to become their sworn enemy.

I'm hoping you can make decisions in Skyrim like you could in New Vegas, albeit more.

What's the point of a role playing game if you can't make decisions?

I mean really,I read somewhere that Vvardenfell got taken over by the Argonions during the Skyrim events.Suddenly Dagoth Ur doesn't look so bad,but noooo Nerevar wouldn't listen.

I'd love to take on the Dark Brotherhood as a goodly character. Maybe the Dark Brotherhood had enemies to take on too, that a goodly character wouldn't have to worry about.

I've never played and never will play the Dark Brotherhood quests in Oblivion. It's just not my cup of tea. Involving the Dark Brotherhood by making them my enemy would be cool in my opinion, and could add to the idea of opposing factions.

it should be easy to get around it though. just script it so that the assassins spawn once the fame reached the required levels but set spawn point somewhere and have move to you.
believe it or not, while its fun it get attacked by npc faction, it gets annoying if they only attack after you've slept. no dynamics there.

It would be awesome if you could work for or AGAINST factions. For example, a Brotherhood assassin could attack you if you stay in an area for too long and if you've previously pissed them off, and you can either kill the assassin or stun him and demand answers, and then you could take out the guild yourself one by one.

I say only if you do a quest in a certain way that pisses off somebody influential.

Like say, taking a certain side in the civil war!
