Will The Elder Scrolls Online be your first MMO?

Post » Wed Feb 05, 2014 3:41 am

I've seen the topic floating around a bit, so I figured it would be cool to get an idea of where people stand as far as MMO experience goes.

Will this be your first MMO? Have you played others but have little experience overall? Or are you perhaps an MMO veteran?

As for myself, this will be my 5th, with previous experience including WoW, FFXI, FFXIV, and EVE.

Edit: Added "0" option for those who picked "yes" in the first question. I didn't know that it forced you to pick from both.

No, I've played probably 50+ MMOs and about 9 for longer than a year. Meridian 59 (1 year), Ultima (2 years), DAOC (1 year), SWG (3 years), EQ 1 (2 years), WoW (6 years), Darkfall (3 years), Wurm (1.5 years), LOTRO (2 years).

I've played 3 others, but selected 1 because I didn't play Age of Conan or Warhammer Online for more than a month or so.

Played Lotro from launch pretty steadliy until a year ago or so, then off and on due to lack of time.

Basically, I've played enough MMOs to know I will thoroughly enjoy it if I dig the world and mechanics, and it'll help if the community isn't overrun by putzes - not that it should be, but that's seems to be a possibility for MMOs.

Massive Elder Scrolls fan from Morrowind release, so I've been looking forward to the game for quite some time.

Same - and those numbers are reasonably close to mine except I am still playing LOTRO after being there in beta and played a fair bit of EQ2 and AoC.

The only MMO I ever played is FFXI almost a decade ago.

Nope. Played Star Wars Galaxies for a couple months when it was new. Played WoW for a few years. Played GW2 for about 6-8 months before I got fed up with it and quit.

Nope. Off the top of my head the MMORPG's alone that I've played include World of Warcraft, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, Runescape, Everquest II, Neverwinter, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Age of Conan, City of Heroes, Lord of the Rings Online, Rift and Rubies of Eventide.

SWG, TSW, DCUO, and EQ2 were fun for a short time

SWTOR, GW2, planetside 2, neverwinter were the big let downs

Won't be my first, can't even count how many MMO's I have played....I think I have played and tried every MMO that has ever came out so far. Can't think or haven't seen any that I have missed. I love MMORPG's, just wish there were more than a handful of good ones.

Played Loonscape for about 6 months then LOTRO for about 6 years. I'm winding down in LOTRO now as there has been little new content in so long. I expect that if they don't muck up the management and direction then l will be in ESO for at least as long.

Wont be my first and I wont even play it though I loved the beta play I had and I played the crap out of it the time I had.

Simply cause of the monthly fee.

I love the lore in elder scrolls and could have bought this mmo version for a 100 euro and then later pay for expansions or whatever they will call it, but to pay a base price like any other game AND have a monthly subscription at that, no way.

I were so excited for it to come then and now just meh why bother to look at it. :/

Went with 5+ but the only game I could ever stick with was Lotro. Still a great game but their direction changed and so it no longer has the things I'm looking for.

Well, that depends on what you ask about OP.

If question is if any at all the answer is loads...

But if question is if I spent with the game more than first month then it'll be a lot less.

Let's see....

Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, LotR Online, GW, GW2, WoW, Defiance.

Big single-player TES fan who has never touched an MMO before. Hoping that I'll like it.

Not really my first mmo. I played a lot, some for a long time and some a brief moment. Some where f2p and I just played them out of boredom (like flyff and freeRealms)

The mmo's i played are: (not in chronological order)

-Starwars Galaxies: approx 8 years with one break

-Vanguard : 7 years with 2 breaks and just cancelled

-Tabula Rasa: from beta to plugpulling

-Pirates of the Burning Sea: from beta to now with some breaks

-Everquest 1 and 2: for a brief moment. Not fun

-World of Warcraft: from launch 3 months. Not my type of mmo

-Warhammer Online: From beta until the game was taken over by EA

- Battleground Europe: from time to time. Gets boring but is fun to play once in a while

-Sage of Ryzom: until game was cancelled. It has been resurrected twice now though and i still have it installed

-SWTOR- from beta until i reached lvl 50 and did all quests/instances after 3-4 months i cancelled. BORING 120 euro CE.

-Rift and LOTRO both for 6 months BORING

-FLY for FUN 3 months. Then i could fly and it was NOT fun

-Free Realms 6 months. Nice minigames looks like a funhouse but not much going on later on

-Age of Conan: from beta to i reached lvl 80. Then it was BORING. So around 6-7 months i played

-Anarchy Online: quite a while but dont know exactly

-Entropia Universe: just to fool around. Still play once a week to kill a creature

-Neverwinter: a brief moment

-Dungeons and dragons also a brief moment

-maybe some others which i can't recall.

The games i liked to most and played the longest are

- Starwars Galaxies. A huge sandbox game which had no quests originally. I just loved a second life as Orit Kelteel. In my opinion the best mmo ever.

-Vanguard: a good mix between a themepark mmo and a sandbox mmo. I had a great time but june the pull the plug

Current mmo's i play:

-StarWars Galaxies EMU: not finished, but i can relive some memories

-Pirates of the Burning Sea. Will deinstall it when TESO comes. I want to focus on one mmo now. I will keep SWG-emu though.

And now it is time for TESO. My hopes are high, but so where my hopes for SWTOR. Please Zenimax my old buddy, don't let me down.

I think my Sig says it all.

It is nice to see we might have a somewhat experienced MMO crowd. I was worried that we would have players thinking that everything would be Elder Scrolls and the MMO qualities would be hidden in the background. This of course will not be the case but I can now relax a little about that concern.

Even though I've played other MMOs I'd still like ESO to be more like Elder Scrolls games than MMOs. Obviously ESO needs the MMO elements to make online play engaging and dynamic, but the Elder Scrolls lore and story is so rich and interesting that there are a lot of cool elements that could come in to play for customization, roleplaying, and gameplay. I really hope there are so many details that your head will spin, but not hurt.

Lol, I read your post after I posted my comment, but I think that what you say is correct.

Personally, I'd like more Elder scrolls features, but who am I kidding, I'm really happy with the Elder Scrolls quality of the game and the MMO part of the game is what makes the online/multiplayer experience work. I'd like to see the game develop and branch away from some of the more standard MMO mechanics like questing and stuff, just to keep things interesting and fresh.

If ESO brings in some of the elements that have made previous solo elder scrolls games so fun, like player housing, justice system, many guilds and other stuff this game will be a huge success.

I put 2. Although I played more for short periods, I could only tolerate the gameplay of DCUO and Tera.

You're not the first person I've heard this from but I find it confusing - in my experience, TES quests are a huge part of the SP games and are exactly the same as MMO quests.

I've never played an MMO before. Big Skyrim fan....570+ hours on that one. I'm probably older than many of you ....grew up playing AD&D RPG with paper and dice back in the early 80's. I also helped beta test play the ORIGINAL first licensed StarTrek RPG WAAAAAY BAAACK when. My name is printed in the module booklet. I wish I had a copy of THAT!

But ESO will be my first MMO. Really hope I like it....in RL I tend to enjoy the company of dogs more than most of humanity and I abhor a crowd!

I've played Fallen Earth on and off for about half a year and EVE Online for a couple of weeks. I still consider myself something of a newcomer to the world of MMOs though.
