I loved FO 3 and a enjoyed FO:NV even more, and with the last DLC coming, marking the end for FO:NV im more and more starting to wonder whats next for the franschise. Unless obsidian is makeing more DLC, or bethesda have magic hands we wont see another fallout related game for what? 2-3 years, makes me sad :/

More dlc seems unlikely as Bethesda has already put everything behind launching skyrim and other new releases. I'm thinking the wait for a new fallout title might be more like 4 years if you takes Todds statement that skyrim would be the last Bethesda game on this console generation, even if it weren't true it would probably take 3 or 4 years since their basically starting over with the new engine meaning the engine probably needs to be modified and then you get to start building the game from nothing. Its going to take some time especially if the new engine is used heck new vegas took 2 years and most of the games systems were built already.

I wouldn't be surprised if it takes another 10 years to get the next Fallout game.

True! There probably wont be a new Fallout game for a few years! I loved New Vegas, I don't wannit to end! :fallout:
Maybe, just maybe if we behave ourselves, they might announce a new game at the end of next year! I'm gonna be on my bestest behaviour just in case! Infact, I'm gonna go make my bed now! :bolt:

I really want a new Fallout Game on that new Creation engine! It's gonna be a sad couple gaming years until the next Fallout game!

Bethesda said sometime ago they're working on 2 games, one ready to be announced, the other in pre-production. Skyrim was announced soon after. At this point, I'd bet my left leg the other title was Fallout 4. Bethesda are a big studio, and due to Fallout selling like hotcakes, you will not be waiting years and years for Fallout 4.

We'll probably start getting teasers and infomation on Fallout 4 a year after Skyrim is released. It'll probably come out fall 2013/14.

That's why I'm just kind of sitting on the DLC for now. I just finished FNV and only had Dead Money for that run. I could go back and use an earlier save to do HH and/or OWB but I have an Oblivion game with new addons I haven't seen yet, just never got them before, so I can save my FNV DLC for a new run down the road. Skyrim will be all-consuming for a long time and that might take me pretty close to FO4. I can hope. :)

I'm wondering if FO4 will be coming on a new console cycle. I'd hate to see it delayed depending on what consoles do but I'm sure they'll make the best decision on what's best for the game.

Probably a year or two until Fallout 4. Fallout 3 was in pre-production when Oblivion came out, IIRC, and there was a comment a while back about Skyrim that mentioned they had another of their franchises in pre-production right now, so its not hard to imagine it being Fallout. Although, of course, it could be something else.

Besides, I think Fallout: Between Good and Evil is coming out in the next few months, so that should keep people happy for a while.

Where was this comment made by Todd "that Skyrim would be the last game for the current consoles"? That is news to me. Bethesda has said they have 2 or more teams, so they are not making one game at a time. We can assume they are working on Skyrim and Fallout 4 at the same time, but it could have ment Skyrim and another game.

We can only guess it is Fallout 4 since it made alot of money just like the TES games have done for them. Seeing the success of New Vegas and Fallout 3, I can't see them not making a Fallout 4. When did Fallout 3 come out? About 2 or 3 years ago? So that means we still have another 2 or 3 years before Fallout 4 comes out if we go by how TES games are released (on average every 5 years.)

Yes I am sad as well that we have to wait for another Fallout game, but look on the bright side. It's not like they are like EA or Activision where they release a new game every year or every 2 years and ruin it then. Just look at DA II. Do you want Fallout 4 to look like DA II?

Will give me some time to calm down really, then when Fallout 4 comes I guess I'll be back with foam in my mouth.
Until then there's always mods for the PC users though.
Console users will have to check out other games, maybe play Fallout 1/2/T?

There's always Skyrim, Saints Row 3, Postal III and Dead Island. ;)

They might outsource it again like FO:NV.

True they might but unless their going with gamebryo again I think were looking at a 3-4 year development time, I guess if Bethesda was already working on the new fallout wee might see it in maybe 2 years if it began in the middle of skyrims development. I just see it taking quite a bit of time getting the new engine set up for a fallout game and then recreating the mechanics they want to keep from 3 and new vegas and then they have to actually build the game, new vegas took 2 years and a good chunk of it was done before work began it was a ready made platform to build off of where as fallout 4 will be more like creating 3 again. I'd love to see a new fallout game next year but I doubt we will.

I don't know why more companies aren't shifting to a more extended "living game" model, rather than the traditional "it ships its done, maybe 1 or 2 DLC's". I mean at this point given the refinement to the engine, the massive art assets already in place etc, how much development cost and time is needed to create smaller DLC plugins for Fallout NV? What is the return on those (noting that both Fallout 3 and Fallout NV remain highly popular years after release). Why limit the DLC then? Pump out a small $10-$14 DLC addon every 3 months until about 6 months out from a new game. Surely there has to be a decent profit model in there?

@pistolero: Except that, I read an article where Bethesda Said they were working on 2 titles already, one in post production (Skyrim) and one in pre (likely fallout 4) so, i'd say, since skyrim is out this year, and bethesda is a large company, that its likely we'll see post production of FO4 no later than 2013 some time.

Plus, if people would just settle this damn lawsuit, we might even see FOOL before that (Doubt it though) because they've proved they were producing it, but there has been relatively no news on it lately.

Fallout 4 will be probably be announced in late 2013 or early 2014. Considering that Todd said Skyrim will be the last on current-gen consoles.

Fallout will always be my #1 but the wait wont be so painful cause I got Mortal Kombat, Dead Island, RAGE, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Skyrim, and Mass Effect 3 to hold me over untill F4 midnight release. My expections are high for the next Fallout cause of the new engine. Im expecting more innovation in combat (bullet sponge solution will probobly be retired) and dialogue (more options and realism), better graphics, and maybe a larger game.

Yea, the environments could be more interactive instead of just being indestructible walls. I was also thinking that certain NPC's could have as many perks as we do (unique or same perks) and use better ammo, weapons and armor as you said. They could also bring back the "evasion" derived statistic which gives you and the NPC the a chance to dodge incoming attacks. The chance percentage to evade depends on the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. level and armor, so naturally a heavy weapons build would have less of a chance to evade attacks than a gunslinger. Not really sure how it would work. Would they be rolling on the ground to dodge an attack or will it just say "evaded" while they're just standing there?
