This.
Too many people rushing out to do straight ports, not bothering to learn how different NV is from FO3 (and it is VERY different from FO3, in terms of gameplay, the setting and the general "feel" of the game) and what it offers.
Yup, hit the nail on the head. It took a while for the really, really good mods to come out for Fallout 3, and Oblivion, Morrowind...see where I'm going with this?
I plan on modding quite a bit, at least porting my equipment mods over to NV as they all fit the setting, my desert camo stuff fits even better here actually (It's not released, but I have some desert camo raider armor etc.). I want to get my merchant mod up and running without it containing a crippling bug that causes instant crashes, for some reason it caused any intercom to crash the game, and I have no idea why
But it was basically a vendor that sold all my modded stuff in Rivet City, I want to relocate him to a gas station that's been repurposed to a store, with some merc guards and fencing to keep it safe. I was planning on making the garage the actual store so there's no loading screen to shop and it looks cool, then make the gas station itself a house.
Before that however, I want to play the game a bit more, get a sense of what needs modding and what doesn't. And as importantly, finding out which gas station I can convert without any serious consequences.
... as for the mod part...
I haven't downloaded/installed other people's mods in a long time (except for the 3rd PV camera one for NV), nor released any of mine in a long time. I will mod this game, that is why I bought it, but this one is the last one. I don't want to be tied up to a "social network" or be controlled by bloatware while playing a game.
As for the "most popular and talented modders... there are many greatly talented modders whose mods aren't as popular/downloaded because they don't turn the game into an FPS or make "sixy" clothing for female meshes. I am not saying that is a bad thing, to each his own. But I prefer mods that bring something original to the table, that enhance the game in subtle ways rather than change it.
Agreed, I recognize the talent required to make those sixy outfits but they don't really fit my playstyle. If I play a female character, then yeah, I want her looking good. There were some sixy yet somewhat practical armors out there for Fallout 3, it's a matter of balance.
I normally play male characters though, and right now he's a ghoul so sixy is thrown right out the window
I want to see more mods that make some equipment that fits in the wasteland and the overall feel of the game. Subtle changes are so much better in my opinion than drastic ones, a great mod is a mod you don't even notice, it just feels like it belongs.
