Will the "major" modders be supporting F:NV?

Post » Thu Sep 24, 2009 1:11 pm

I know we've already seen a fair share of early mods, and props to those modders for using their time to improve F:NV!

But I have to ask - will the most popular and talented modders be supporting F:NV? I would hate for them to just see New Vegas as a "side game" not worth their effort. In reality, New Vegas has SO much missing potential, especially with all of the new hard-coded features, expansion potential, etc.

I know Martigen said he may support, so that's great if he does. And we're seeing the Darnified UI in pogress. But any word on major mods like FWE, FOOK, and all the other greats?

depends who you consider to be "major" modders. A lot of work that some modders did for fallout 3 is being ported to fallout NV already. And besides that I guess NV is a standalone game but it could also be seen "an expansion pack" for FO3. So I guess the majority of the modding community that has been active in the FO3 community for so long will also make mods for NV.

Well, people keep saying that Dracomies(author of Project Beauty) won't... which is sad if that's the truth. :(

I don't think it really matters who it is making the mods does it? As long as this wonderful avenue of custom creation continues, we'll see new talent come and go along with all the mesmerising and mouthwatering offerings of a virtually limitless pot of creativity and vision.

I've seen the art of modding grow from obscure and arcane dabbling to a huge almost industrial production line - names stand out oftimes along the journey but the beauty of it, from my point of view, is the limitless resources pooled from a whole world of talent both familiar and unknown.

Let the modding continue...!

Well, I produced 1 mod addon, 1 mod, and 1 modder resource for Morrowind as Pathanias Couer de Leon.
Fiddled around a bit with Oblivion but never released anything because I was not satisfied with it.
Fiddled around a bit with Fallout 3 but never released anything because I was not satisfied with it.
However, with Fallout: New Vegas, I hope to become known :)

In less than 10 days since release I have already ported over a major mod and am currently tweaking and improving it for the next update and am learning modeling and UV mapping for a major release of it. After that I have an expansion planned for the Wild Wasteland perk.

People probably want to finish the game before adding more content.

This.

Too many people rushing out to do straight ports, not bothering to learn how different NV is from FO3 (and it is VERY different from FO3, in terms of gameplay, the setting and the general "feel" of the game) and what it offers.

Well, being a hair/eye/ and future race megamod I am not really messing around with the gameplay or mechanics myself, just the cosmetics of the game. Working slowly on the mod because I am still actually playing it :)

People probably want to not crash constantly before adding more content.

Snark'd you.

Only reason ive been modding is because I cant play the damn game yet :brokencomputer: , my sanity is being swept away by a tidal wave of CTD's / hard crashes. Hopefully obisidan are working on an official patch to help us out / sort some bugs.

If you're asking if there will be huge omnibus mods with no editorial restraint, I'd say that's a given.

Indeed it already is.

Kai speaks true wisdom, as usual, and this is why FWE was more than the sum of its parts.

I will most likely not be doing anything for FONV as I still have no great desire to deal with the trash that is Steam.

I agree with learning the game first, I am learning alot by playing the game extensively that I would never know otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very Grateful to the early-birds on the really important stuff like NVEdit and NVSE, but it's not realistic to Expect that kind of speed in the first few weeks.

Ditto. I wanted "me" time to enjoy the game that I paid for. Before I go digging around in the GECK and get tempted to look at overall cell layouts, where unique items are hidden, what NPCs are there, etc. Give them time to enjoy the "surprises around every corner" phase.

Plus, I'm a firm believer that the better mods are those that extend / expand / amplify what is already in the game, which means a basic understanding of how the new system works and plays out in vanilla. The better mods are those where the authors have played through the game at least a few times before they start making fundamental changes to how combat, loot or quests work. Or look at the art style in New Vegas before they add something. (Not a personal fan of "god" mods that hand you everything on a platter at the start of the game, but that's a different old-man rant.)

Ah i see it's that way, guess even the good modders can't resist joining the bandwagon.

Steam user here with 120 games on the account over the past 3 years, not a single issue I've had with it, not to mention when people do find bugs and report them, valve nearly always fix them in the next steam update.

Why do you hate on it :D. It doesn't affect how you make mods. And seriously why would you hate the one of the main reasons why PC game devs can still sell their products for profit?
People need to stop hating on Steam just because "I want it on disc" , "requires to download spyware", "pops ads in my face"(after you've played the game, and the deals it advertises are pretty good if you are interested in the game)" and most of all "requires me to have an internet connection!"

If you can't think of any real reasons to hate it, like steam servers shutting down randomly and making you quit the game (have used Steam for 5 years and maybe once this has happened). And remember this can only happen in online games that are reliant on Steam, like L4D 1&2.

He originally planned to make a New Vegas mod but he has retired from modding completely for now. Really a shame, especially since the face stuff in New Vegas works a little differently so even the better facial textures can't be ported easily...

Well I consider ART a "major" since i use that overhaul instead of the other mods.

:tops:

Vanilla New Vegas compared to ART'ified FO3 is just not the same.
