Will the strong narrative-push hinder sidequest qual.quant.

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 9:17 am

I feel like since Fallout 4 is aiming for better cinematic presentation with facial expressions, body mannerisms and scripted animations (if not just for the Main Quest) that the result will us end up having either fewer sidequests than previous games, but with the same quality as shown in the demo, or about the same amount of sidequests as before, but with less attention to detail. Do you think it's possible that everything is just better this time around without sacrificing making drastic cuts compared to previous games? I know it's Fallout and all, and we can go explore how we wish, but as far as quests go, I'm scared it'll be a run & gun scenario for the most part.

considering that we have 13000 dialog lines for the player im sure we got to talk about something and this would include many quest related conversations

Not only is that a paragraph, but you're not one to talk :deal:

But didn't New Vegas have around 65,000 and Fallout 40,000 total dialogue ? 13,000 sounds weak in comparison, but if it's just for the player, how much dialogue can we expect in the game then?

For the main character or for the whole game? I doubt the main character had 65000 lines.

Edited. I meant total. The main character technically had 0 lines

Isn't 13,000 only for the main character's lines? That's not even considering the female versions.

@topic:

I don't see why it'll hinder that. It's not like the team consisted only of the graphics devs.
They still have writers, individual teams for individual quests, all of which utilizing the new engines to fit their quests.
I won't be surprised if the new "do anything while talking" system Howard discussed will allow some sneaky merchants to pickpocket you while talking or have you stand there thinking about what he says while he takes his time to draw or something.

I think it'll be the same kind of sandbox we had before but with more features and a better story.

They added in a big weapon modding system and a huge build-your-own-settlement system. To me that says "we went overboard everywhere on everything" which I think is actually what they did.

to my knowledge the 65000 in new vegas and 40000 in fallout were overall text lines including npc responses. one can easily remember how npcs in new vegas would respond alot from you just choosing 1 line. could be 1 to 3 or 4 lines from player to npc. while the 13000 speech lines in fallout 4 are from the player only.

Do we know that 13,000 isn't including both sixes? How many lines will actually change even if it was 26,000 voiced lines just for the PC? I'm sure most will be copy/paste with a different voice, so does it really count towards the total?

As far as I know the it was the male protag's voice actor who said "I recorded 13,000 lines."
Can't really be sure as I've distanced myself from all trailers, theory threads, MattyPlays videos, trailer anolysis threads/vids.
I want my experience of FO4 to be completely fresh.

65000 was total for new vegas.

Learn some basics.

I'll bet this isn't even including the [six check: male/female] or possible [skill check: Black Widow/Lady Killer] 5-10 possible lines each.

if these perks are even included in the game that is. since you know we're married to somebody. makes less sense to have a six based perk like confirmed bachelor or black widow when you have a spouse.

Each bgs RPG iteration has included more and more content, especially side quests (don't quote me on this as I'm going off of memory). I hope that they took a page out of Obsidian's book though, because those guys delivered twice the content in half the time :S

Yeah that is true, but I've never heard Toddy talk about sacrifice before. I wonder to what all that applies to. FO4 has been in development for a long time so I hope that means they used that time to not skimp.

Why can't Beth and Sid work together? Go out on a couple of dates, talk some things over mutfruit cocktails, have Beth design the world and Sid design the mechanics. Oy.

This, I expecting an larger game than Fallout 3 who is also pretty confirmed with map size.

The only issue I see with an more chinematic main quest is that it might end up getting misplaced.

Hurry up feeling and the game end then main quest is done would not work well, more chance you do not want to end it fast like in Oblivion where finishing the main quest early locks you out of some resources so you wait. This was an issue in Oblivion.

Bgs gave obsidian all the tools and stopped them from being their own worst enemy (which they always are, hence if left to their own device they would destroy any game series and go belly up).

New Vegas was just a few mods done for f3 with a new map and quests.

But since f3 was the best game ever made, that makes new vegas the second best. Thanks to bgs more than obsidian. I hope bgs let them do another map while having them on a short leash.

You need to learn some basics before you run off your tiny little mouth.

That's because NV focused much better on Speech than F3 ever could have hoped.

But, that's your opinion and I'll respect that.

As far as the rest goes, you're completely wrong. You pretend to know a lot yet know nothing at all. There's a lot of things I don't like about FNV but I won't pretend it didn't deliver far more http://jul.rustedlogic.net/thread.php?id=15410. These weren't just a few mods in a new map strung together...jesus, is a man's rear considered a valuable source for information now? All you're doing is reducing a game to such a point of absurdity so it fits your narrative of "Obsidian is [censored] and BGS is my God."

If these guys destroy everything they touch, they wouldn't be getting joint partnerships to work on games with devs behind Wasteland 2, Southpark, or PoE. The truth is Obsidian knows RPGs, and they know them better than Bethesda.

Before you post in the future in any thread, have a read over this: 'Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.'

Plato wrote that with you in mind, and based on your post history it confirms my suspicions regarding the latter part of the quote.

Another one for my ignore list :(

I see what you are saying now. Basically your thought process is that this is 3D facial capture (or something similar) and they won't do that for EVERY NPC like they did for Preston Garvey. It would be a step backwards for the development studio if they did that. If they couldn't have the NPC's fully animated and voiced for all the side quests then they wouldn't have done it that way. Plus, they've estimated that the game has 400 hours of content. So they will likely have more than twice as many side quests as Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 combined.
