Will there be an alert for nearby enemies?

No. This isn't Metal Gear Solid.

I believe he said it's more that it pops up when you need it. As in when you get hit and lose health you need to know how much health you have. And goes away after you've had full health a bit. It won't just turn on because there are enemies nearby.

In Oblivion, the music changed when an enemy spotted you.

I would be very surprised if the HUD was not visible for the entire duration of the fight. When the fight starts, it will probably appear so you can track you health and magicka, as well as whatever other info you might need for a fight. I really doubt it will go away until after your enemies are dead.

HUD during combat already confirmed.

If you had read the other comments I had made in this thread, you'd know just how pointless that comment was.

I'm sorry if I seemed rude or such, but I just spent 6 hours with 30 first graders that would not shut up or pay attention.

The only thing I want the compass to show is the direction I am facing. I turn off music in games and in Oblivion I could typically hear things moving around me so I did not need the music (which drowns out all of the sound clues).

What if detect life just put a mark on the compass? It would be better than making everyone glow purple.

*smack* "DO YOUR COLORING!"

I wouldn't really want this in, After playing for a while it is easy to tell friend from foe. And its fun to get ganked now and again, that is why we have autosaves.

Yes I'm pretty sure that there is a Hidden, Danger for Sneaking like Fallout 3.

Erm.. something like that is completely useless to TES.

You have spells for that. I.E. Detect life...

I hope not and they probably don't because there is no hud on until you fight having one will make the hud on all the time.

I sincerely hope not. That doesn't sound like TES to me. That sounds like Fallout. And this is TES, not Fallout.
Just because it works for one game type doesn't mean it will work for another. That would ruin immersion for me.

No! I want npcs to be able to sneak on me. Think of the spider in the cave, if I see it on the radar where's the excitement when it silently drops from the ceiling?

THIS!

I think being able to see ticks if you can easily see the enemy is reasonable. Otherwise, no.

I'd be fine with it if it represents a perception skill(like FO)l or the detect life spell. You don't really have peripheral vision, you don't really look around while walking normally so the sneak up on me arguments don't work for me since you are kind of hamstrung on the seeing them side of things. Also I am more of a character skill than personal skill type when it comes to rpgs so my characters perception spotting things I would not is fine with me.

I think it's less needed than in Fallout 3, because in FO3 most people had guns so it was important to spot them from a distance. And it made the Perception stat a little less useless. :P

Guns or no guns, TES games have ranged attacks (Arrows and spells...maybe even a catapult in V! That would be sweeeeeet.) So..... I think that would be handy ;p

I agree with this, or an option to turn these marks on or off. I do find it strange that people have so much trouble getting 'immersion'. I have never had any issues getting 'in to' games like TES or FO, regardless of their features. The games are amazing by themselves, and Im not even sure what you guys are talking about when you say immersion. Is it like leaving your body and entering the game or something?

If anything is an 'immersion' killer, its displaying your health on screen. Is that magic? Or futuristic? How about the menu interface. Im pretty sure they didnt have that in the Elder Scrolls lore, and Im pretty sure that doesnt exist in real life....Fallout at least had an explanation for this magical menu that pops out of thin air. How about being able to carry 600 pounds of equipment? All of these aspects take away from the realism of the game, or IMMERSION as some (ALL) like to call it. Yikes, its the scary immersion troll coming to ruin your gaming experience! Truth is, some aspects have to be 'magical' or 'futuristic' to make the game playable and not obnoxious.

It would be really annoying if to make the game more realistic it took 8 hours to walk a few miles, and walking was the only transportation. It would be really boring if I could only carry one Longsword at a time. If I had to sleep everyday for 8 literal hours, that would add a lot to the immersion, but would ruin the game. Maybe I have to sit down and eat three meals a day, and file taxes. While all of the above would make the world a more realistic, and believable environment I think they would make for a awful game.

I don't know why people keep spouting this. They have said that the compass will remain on the screen at all times. It will be in the top center of your screen. That is where those types have ticks have been customarily displayed (on the compass).

if i can sneak up on npcs.......then why cant they sneak up on me. the same reason i make my health the same or a bit lower than theres and i dont use uber equipment is because i want to be on a more even level with mobs im fighting and frankly i want some of them to be tougher than me. i DO NOT like being the center of the gameworld with superpowers and indestuctability. if i wanted that i would go play city of heroes or jedi knight.

I think perception should be gained over time.... or if you have close to all your stamina, that your perception is 1 higher...
