Will there be different body types/more hairstyles for NPCs?

Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 1:41 pm

Hi. I'd heard there will be more body customization for your character in this game. I would assume that would mean for NPC's too, am I right?
I want some bent-back old beggars and some fat rich dudes and what-not.

Also, will there be more hairstyles than Oblivion (though I liked the ones there were) and perhaps will they not all be very shiny?

Thanks!

Mostly speculation, there have been hints to body customization, but not confirmed and unknown to what extent that it will be cusimizable. As for straight up face custimization, the faces look much more realistic, plus, BEARDS HAVE BEEN ADDED! (oh, and I'm sure there will be some new hairstyles too.

Oh, that's good. I always wanted a proper beard like in Morrowind, not a blue paste on my face.

But seriously, it seems like there should be different size NPC's!

Agreed. it felt weird, seeing an old beggar, killing him cause he's annoying, looting him and then look at him just to see that he has the exact same musculature as an imperial officer, even though he NEVER did any kind of training in his life

Seeing the face gen has improved from Oblivion to Fallout3 (havent ried NV so cant comment), I'm not worried. I'm sure Skyrim's will be improved on Fallout3's.

My main concern is having races really look different from one another. (This was present for most races in TES3, not much in TES4) I can't wait till I get the magazine for this. Hopefully theres pics of a few different races...

Actually, it was confirmed in the GI article that body customization will be available. The caption for the bottom picture on page 51 reads:

"Facial and body features are entirely customizable."

Although body types is likely given the hints we've been given, doubt we'll see outright "fat old rich bastards". Wouldn't it risk a lot of clipping issues ?

Too bad too. I sure would want to create a tough as teck, obese blue-tatooed spherical witch woman of a character.

I think there should be customizable bodies, but within lore of course. It would be weird to see people with a tall wood elf. I think Nords should be defaultly more buff then any of the other human races, while Imperials and Redguards are in between. Bretons should be skinny.

I'd love tattoos, both on myself and enemies. At the very least, some war-paint would be awesome.

dark brotherhood, I completely agree. And whichever elves were supposed to be generally taller could be, etcetera.

And as for clipping, I don't mean TOO fat. Just for example on Lord of the Rings Online the elves tend to be skinny whilst my hobbit is a bit chubby and I haven't seen any clipping issues. Seems seamless. Seamless, it seems.

I hope they make a return. I remember in Morrowind the Dunmer and Nords had face paint on some of the faces, which I thought was awesome. So probably not 'tattoo', but face/body paint would be nice. But pre-set's would get slightly annoying. Though PC mods would fix that. If they put in body/face paint, I hope they also add a system like in Call of Duty: Black Ops. What I mean is, you can pick pre-set images, and layer them over each other to make new images, and edit the images also. Like an 'A', then you can rotate it, choose it's color, scale, and move it around, then you could put an 'O' on a layer behind the 'A' and then you would have something like a (A) image. Best I can explain it... Like if they had like an image of a snake, and one of a dragon, you could make it look like the dragon is eating the snake, or whatever.

And obviously they will have new hairstyles, graphics have been improved so much since Oblivion. I think Facegen will be completely different too. It's on a new game engine, unlike Oblivion and the Fallout's. I doubt the difference will be like going from Morrowind to Oblivion (graphics wise anyways), but it will be a great improvement I'm sure. I have faith in Bethesda. They'll do what other game dev's are failing at: Making an Awesome new game! (Not to sound rude to other game dev's, but to me, most games that have Sequel's are almost the same. Elder Scrolls was/is different than that.)

edit: And yeah, I think there should be restrictions on certain races. But however, I think any race can get fat, or skinny... I don't know much about the lore, so I'm not positive, but if an orc did nothing but tend to his store, and eat, drink, sleep... Well, I want to see a fat orc! :D Not too fat, but very noticeably fat. And I want to see beggars who are very skinny due to a lack of food, I mean so skinny their clothes hang off them (though that may be a clipping problem, or other game engine stuff.) Wood Elf's should only be able to reach about 5'6 (5 feet, 6 inches). Whereas Orcs and Nords can be as large as 6'6... But only be able to go down to about 5'6. I imagine Argonians can be very versatile in their height/weight, but I could be wrong. Well, anyways, Bethesda will do a good job either way :)

an overlay system for makeup/tattoos/paint/weather or nature effects/diseases/old age/imperfections/wounds and bruises would be really cool
