I don't think there will because there not in HD format but I thought I might as well ask.

If they do it better not be as crappy as The Brotherhood of Steel Game was. I could see em releasing the originals for a handheld, that'd be kinda fun.

If they released some cut-cornered version of the game, then that would be so gay.
I just think that the wasteland and such is too large to contain in a little cartridge.

If they do I'm thinking it will be some gimmicky little game that will only somewhat resemble Fallout, unfortunately.

it would definetly be convenient and fun if they could just directly port the game to a handheld. If they had to remove things and cut corners it wouldn't be good at all. Even if they don't it's not hard to get the games for your PC and pretty much any system can run them. If you look around Amazon you can can get the Fallout Trilogy Pack (which has both 1 and 2 along with Tactics) for under 10 dollars.

I don't think fallout's really suited to the handheld environment. Handhelds excel at games where you can play in short sessions, whereas fallout excells at being a long, immersive game,

yeah this is true. I just started playing the Fallout Trilogy this week and haven't even beat Fallout 1 yet, but when I play it I'll just have a simple task set in mind like go to x and do y but I'll run into so many little things to do on the way I'll look up and 2 hours have passed in what seems no time at all.

I don't know what you mean. "HD format"?
Given that the resolution of current handhelds are as follows:
PSP - 480x272
DS - two 256x192 screens
GP2X/Wiz - 320x240
Pandora - 800x480
iPhone/iPod Touch - 480x320

F1 and F2 run at 640x480.
Basic levels of HD are defined (currently) as 1280x720 and 1920x1080.
What I guess I'm asking is - what has "HD" got to do with this?

If they released some cut-cornered version of the game, then that would be so gay.

Wow, I just lost all respect for you.

I just think that the wasteland and such is too large to contain in a little cartridge.

Depending on how it was done, I'm sure something could be created to fit the cartridge.

(Edit:Missed out the iPhone, oops..)

I think that would depend on what you define as "immersive". Does Chrno Trigger count (DS port)? How about The World Ends with You (DS)? Or even Pokemon (pretty much anything from Nintendo)?

I would say there are a lot of short games for the DS, yes, but I think a Fallout game for handhelds would work well (In fact, I think a lot of people would like having some longer RPGs for handhelds. I believe this has been lamented over before on a few game sites...).

Obviously it wouldn't look or quite be the same as the Fallouts are right now, but that's not necessarily a bad thing...

im sure it could be done, but with hokers, beer, drugs, and intense gore, i doubt nintendo would publish it. perhaps on the PSP, though i think DS would be more suited. either way, i'd be very happy.

This basically sums up my opinion.

Unless they put the originals or Tactics onto a handheld, there probably won't be any huge open world games because it requires so much memory space. Eventually we'll have 360 quality games on handheld consoles though of course so I'm only speaking of the near and foreseeable future.

I didn't say there werent any - just that its not playing to the strength of the platform. You could in theory drive to work in a Formula 1 racecar, but its doesnt excel at a round-town car - but put it on a racetrack...

It could probably be done, and possibly even well. It's just I would not understand why you would want to play an in-depth RPG on a handheld, especially because of multiple playthroughs and just how massive they should be.

I would however, see how a Fallout Tactics style would work in handheld format. I liked that game even if it was not a "true" RPG, as it was more like Final Fantasy because there was no two-sided dialogue. I would probably buy and play Fallout Tactics on the PSP or DS if it game out, as long as it was done well. A fully fledged RPG with all the SPECIAL characteristics, extra dialogue options, consequences and scripts? Probably impossible.

Point taken. I'd still like to see some long rpgs on the handheld. After all, Pokemon was a big success so length isn't necessarily the problem (some may cringe at it, but leveling up monsters is rather rpg like to me...), but some of us would feel a bit old to be collecting Pikachus (no, not bashing, I'm just saying some fans have grown out of it, like myself). But I wouldn't mind collecting experience to be better with guns instead... :P

As for why, I'd say a long rpg would be nice because there aren't ishloads of them on the system, for one, and because, as much fun as Mario Kart is, I can't stand to sit and play it for more than an hour at a time. If I was visiting a relative, for example, and can't access a home gaming console, it would be nice to have an immersive game you could carry around, throw time into in short bursts if necessary but can easily throw hours into (think Age of Mythologies for the DS, or Chrno Trigger). But that's just my (clearly biased) take on why Fallout on the DS would be awesome.

Heh. Full credit to pokemon here. As a JRPG, it is a great game, a unique combat/play system, very good at game design. Its also one of the few areas where the "flaws" inserted by marketing add to the game (selling 2/3 versions of the same game with minute differences force the social element).

Thats why I sold my PSP after a year... (obviously not Mario Kart, but because there seemed to be nothing but racing games).

Now that I think about it, and to take a step away from RPGs, what about a trading/strategy game? Players take control of the Brotherhood of Steel or Raiders from the West Coast, East Coast, and maybe North/South. Each group has its own unique troops/talents, and players exchange troops and generals (think Heroes from Age of Mythologies), battle each other (would the BoS fight each other? Maybe as splinter factions?), and contribute to an online tracker (a website map of some sort, shaded different colors to show how each side is doing on a global scale?)

Okay, the online tracker is a half-baked loaf of an idea, but it would be kind of cool to see how your army, in combination with other players, is taking over the world.
