Will There Be Kids?

Post » Sun Feb 13, 2011 6:40 pm

Hey fellas,

Was just wondering what you guys thought about this. In Oblivion there weren't any kids around (although were mentioned in books, and sometimes talked about too). So they clearly exist, just aren't visible.

In Fallout 3 however, kids existed but were untouchable. They couldn't be killed, or even injured. It was beyond essential, it was God mode..

What about Skyrim? Will there be kids at all? If so, will they be essential like in Fallout? Share your thoughts and opinions on the matter. :)

I'd rather not see them

there's just too much Bethesda won't do with them (I don't blame them either). It's just simpler to leave them out

It would help immersion to have kids running around. Plus if you are a good character, it would feel better helping a town if it had kids as well as advlts.

Ah, we got the "werewolves" and the "spears" questions seemingly nanoseconds after the forum went live... :P I was wondering when this would crop up. :D

I can honestly say I don't care - I didn't care that they weren't in MW or OB, but if they are in Skyrim, as NPC/world flavor so to speak, as has been done in other games, that would also be fine with me.

I think it would be cool if they had children, but more so I would like more character models. Not everyone should be ripped. In Oblivion, even the old people had a 6-pack. There should be overweight people, thin people, muscular people, as well as many different heights.

Doubtful. More controversy than it's worth.

There should be children in TESV: Skyrim.

I remember a while back, that I tried making a school in the church that is in Chorrol. I made all the people that were children to be very short at about 0.4 their normal size (with 1.0 being the normal size). I also tried (but failed) to make the teacher have dialogue.

But back to talking about TESV, there should be children AND you should be able to kill them. Not trying to be cruel or anything, but this is the time of civil war!

I don't really care - if anything I think they'd detract from the atmosphere of the game. I'm one of those people who likes to liken TES to the spirit of DnD. Everybody is an established adventurer in a dark and romanticized world, and you don't exactly just have people running around frolicking. I liked how in Morrowind all the NPCs acted like they were really busy and serious. If there's kids, keep them confined to the taverns like in Daggerfall. :P

There is a problem with putting children in the game.

I assume that, while it would add to realism, it would also kill some of the immersion. Why? Because you couldn't injure them. Just like Fallout 3, I would bet that they would be invincible, which seems kinda dumb. (Not Beths fault, it's the ESRB)

Probably easier to leave them out. But who knows, I could be wrong!

Same. I just want to play this game already! :obliviongate:

I think that children would make the places a bit more realistic (if you can talk about realism in a game like TES :P ) - but if it happens I bet they are untouchable; it's just more controversy than it's worth for Beth to let you kill them.

The only way I would like to see kids implemented if city streets had 100 npcs and a few kids running around. But if towns are going to be similar size to oblivion then no thanks :)

Yes, I will be quite happy with children running around, always good to see a few brats getting into mischief. :D

Could have been that they disappeared into the gates of Oblivion. :P

It would be cool to see children in the game, would add more diversity.

Yes, there should be children.

Helps with immersion. I mean damn! do the creatures of Tamriel just pop out of the ground or something??

I don't really care. They've been referenced in books, and confirmation of their existence is good enough for me. Plus, I think it would be rather hard to pull of young Argonians or Khajiits without making them look laughable or disturbing.

I don't think there will be kids. There's the whole question of how to deal with them being invulnerable if they are in the game without breaking immersion - making them essential might work, but still. Sort of breaks immersion for me, though.

I don't really care either way - it would be nice to see a few kids running around, but only if they could be integrated in a realistic fashion. And if not, I'd rather it was a childless universe. :P

I'm sure as long as the children aren't human it's okay for us to slaughter them

I've always prefered as much realism and choice as possible in games so I think that they should introduce children and teenagers and that that if I wanted to I could kill them. I'm not saying that I would its just just that having the possibility to do so is what having genuine choice is all about.
