Will there be a quest...

Post » Mon Oct 03, 2011 12:34 pm

In Morrowind's Bloodmoon expansion, there's a quest where you have to kill the Uderfrykte. The beast has been attacking the mead hall in Thirsk. Similar to the first part of the epic poem Beowulf, where Grendel (a horrible monster like the Uderfrykte) is attacking King Hrothgar's mead hall. In Oblivion, the player can kill the Uderfrykte Matron, which is said to be the mother of the Uderfrykte. In the second part of Beowulf, Beowulf does battle with Grendel's mother. See the pattern?

With dragons being in Skyrim, how likely do you guys think the chances of us getting a third quest in this series that parallels the third part of Beowulf are? (For those who have never read the poem, a dragon attacks the town and Beowulf has to kill it to protect the town)

Might be interesting, but...

Spoiler
wouldn't the player have to die to follow the Beowulf story accurately?

How they could go about doing it is the count/king/ruler of X town requires the players assistance in defeating the dragon, and he/she be the one to die instead of the player.

i think if they made grendals mom an invisible troll, i think it would be just fine fighting a unique dragon without breaking the story....

no no no, its been officialy released that you can play after the end of the main quest. so the player character cant di.......wait. todd howard DID say that the ending of red dead was UBER cool and mentioned for a half secound SPOILERS (mabye he ment spoiler for skyrim?) when doing so. check out http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/bonusround/508?ch=2 of gametrailer bonus round to hear this.

mabye you DIE killing alduin (unrelated for the beowulf ref.) and get to play as a child very close to how you looked. sounds possible?

Or maybe, in a double plot twist, Alduin's son comes seeking revenge and kills you.

Dragons attacking towns is an inherent part of the game though so something else would have to elude to Beowulf. Not familiar with the story but surely there is some other detail that could be associated with one of Skyrim's many dragon town sieges that would set it apart as being a nod to Beowulf.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the Throat of the World is named High Hrothgar, either.

IDK why beowulf is so inspiring but having a playthrough character based after him would get you killed because 1.) You would die in the end because of how the lure ends and 2.) he fights nakes and with no weapons or maybe a basic weapon which is a quick way to killed
