Will there be steam workshop?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 9:03 am

Seeing all this talk of mods but their from a third party site. Also noticed some past bethesda titles had steam workshop but this Fallout game does not have steam workshop. Is that on purpose, or do we wait for the steam workshop? How does it work? Wondering because a big reason many of us on PC bought the game was that the kind of steam support that the TES games have gotten would be implemented for Fallout 4 so we could play it forever and ever. Dont really trust third party sites, just a personal thing, so hoping this game will have steam workshop support to make our wildest dreams come true? Dreams like having the hud actually fit in the corners...

Since the GECK isn't released until early 2016, they probably don't see much need to set up the workshop yet. From what I understand, workshop mods will be uploadable via the GECK itself.

Has there been any more news on Bethesda.net? The last I heard they were hoping to use that as a mod source, and if they do, would they just not bother with the Steam Workshop?

If there is a workshop you should likely skip it and use a modding system (Nexus Mod Manager or Mod Organizer). The workshop is only safe if you use a few simple mods or just texture type mods. Any complex mod that runs scripts and have dependencies would be a ticking time-bomb to your save file on the workshop. The Workshop does not have a proper update system nor a proper way to check load order and dependencies. Eventually it will break your save game if you use it for complex mods or in conjunction with complex mods. Its habit of just updating mods when you run the game will likely affect scripts from the more complex mods leaving them orphaned or otherwise broken. Bethesda's esp, scripting and load order system is not forgiving

View Gopher's modding videos on YouTube to learn how to mod your game for stability or don't be surprised when your game starts to fall apart over time after using the workshop. Any of the Fallout or Skyrim videos will show you what you need to know. All the Bethesda games work basically the same way when it comes to modding them.

I read in forum posts elsewhere that a twitter statement from Bethesda (or one of their devs ) indicated no, no Steam Workshop for this game as they

will be doing it in house. I suppose to keep things tidy for PC/ and consoles.

Which is one thing I'll avoid. I have always used Nexus for years, and am doing so now. Nexus Mod manager is out for FO4 too as of a day or so ago.

I don't see why people are obsessing on Steam Workshop in the first place. It is a far cry from what Nexus is.

Im using about 30 texture mods and 4 plugins as of this morning.

NO need to wait for full toolkit support. Just be smart about what one uses in meantime.

I think most knowledgeable pc users will use the Nexus and Bethesda.net will be for the consoles.
