Will there still be dragons when you complete the main quest

Post » Tue Aug 30, 2011 11:36 pm

The dragons only fear the dragonborn so main quest will be to put them back in imprisonment so once its done will there still be comon dragons what do you think?

This is a good question.. They said Dragons have key role in the story, but hopefully they won't be extinct once it's over..

I don't think bethesda would do such a mistake as to extinct the main attraction of the game

Its already been said they stay after the main quest. The real question to me, is if they actually address the issue in the form of a few post main quest questlines.

Maybe we need to fight off some specific dragons who remained and are trying to regroup/continue their agenda despite Alduin's defeat?

Maybe on the other side of the fence, we have to help some dragons who have surrendered and want to integrate into society?

Or anything in between.

What if in future games they decide "Hey dragons were cool in Skyrim, let's throw them everywhere in Tamriel!"

He did?
It was my understanding there would be no dragons after the main quest, but I could be wrong.

The player may feel that his/her character would not have the sufficient amount of Dragon shouts that they want so that would be Bethesda queue to keep them in, if they decide to do so.

They'll probably be in caves. Makes sense if Dovakhiin has defeated Alduin. Any surviving dragons would flee or hide, right?

But then we must ask ourselves...how do Dragons fit through the cave door?

I don't want to piss off the lore people if I get these names wrong but - if Alidun (or however its spelled) has the black dragons ( Jills right?) then even after the MQ when you defeat him/them there should still be plenty of the other dragon types around.

I hope so. My biggest regret with Oblivion was no longer being able to travel to Oblivion after the main quest. I know you defeated the prince of darkness and everything but come on, what happend to all the randon gates I never closed yet <_<

That's one thing I was grateful for. Those gates annoyed me real fast. Fighting dragons shouldn't be as tedious unless you constantly fight them every ten minutes.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that I remember hearing that they won't just die off after Alduin is taken care of, but sadly I cannot remember the source. :/

I remember Todd saying someting like "dragons arrent always out to kill you" I would imagine that only the "nice" dragons that don't attack villages and stuff would remain

Yes they will since dragons are random encounters just like other creatures. However some dragons are scripted

Probably, yes.

I mean, Oblivion gates were still open after you defeat Mehrunes Dagon; so why not?

The relevant section:

3. The dragons are never-ending
Dragons are the big bosses of Skyrim and the battles with them appear to be suitably intense – at least if the climactic encounter in the game's E3 demo is anything to go by. You can use magic to summon electrical storms to combat them in the air, and when you inflict enough damage upon them they'll crash to the ground with all the heft of a mythical jumbo jet – carving out deep grooves in the earth and churning up dust and topsoil as their hulking bodies grind to a halt. Then once they're dead, you consume their souls and inherit their power. But the dragons will always come back.

"They're not limited, they're like any other creature in the game, they're not scripted – you can come across them as you play through the world but they don't go away," explains Lafferty. "It's not like you can defeat all of the dragons and they'll cease to exist – they'll always be there in the game. And they're also a central focus to the story – it's the first Elder Scrolls game with dragons - and you're dragon born, you can speak the language of the dragon. So it's just trying to figure out why the dragons are back, why they're special and how does that play out in the world?"
