Will they change the running animation?

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2011 9:08 pm

Hey people, I'm new. One thing I am sincerely hoping is that they sort out some of the physics in Skyrim. For instance, the running animation that Oblivion, FO3/NV shared absoloutely did my head in. The fact you could run diagonally and it would look as if you were gliding across the floor. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait until it's released, I just hope they make it a step-up from it's predecessors. What do you guys think, and what sort of changes in animations would you like to see?

I just hope they make it a step-up from it's predecessors.

That's usually what sequels do, take it to the next level.

And this is a new engine, I'm sure most Oblivion animations were scrapped and rebuilt

Skyrim is being made with a all new engine so it isn't going to be like Oblivion/Fo3/NV and they say they are really really working hard to make animations look great, They feel that has always been one of their weak points. I do agree, you did look like you were gliding in those games and it always put me off.

From everything we've learned I am very hopeful for this game, and I'm sure animations will be drastically improved over Oblivion's.

The engine has very little to do with resources like animations. However, I can't imagine they haven't scrapped them - the question is, are the new ones better, or just different?

Of course they will change it...

Considering everyone bashes Bethesda because of the poor animations in their games, it's only logical that they would at least make them decent.

Ha, funny joke. Because the engine doesn't have everything to do with every other part of the game, it's only the base that the entire game stands on. /sarcasm

I would like to possibly see animations that are tailored to the kind of character you make. If you have low Speed and high Heavy Armor you run with a hulking movement. If you specialize in Light Armor you are more nimble. If you have a high Sneak skill you run like those mother ing god ers in stupid ing Naruto. Just not that last part, or I will take drastic measures.

Agreed. Some similarities will be visible, but most of the things in Skyrim have most likely been overhauled.

the animations changed alot from morrowind to oblivion, seeing skyrims development is longer then oblivions development, most likely the animations will change dramatically in skyrim

Will they change the running animation definitely yes since Skyrim use new engine.
Will they do many new variable animations like different animations for males and females, beasts and humans probably, but I believe they do, at last I hope on this.

Personally I want to see an overhaul on all the animations. They were just too stiff and lifeless in Oblivion.

The engine doesn't really have anything to do with animation, this has already been pointed out

New engine mean new animations files to be created, first question in quality how the will be done.
I believe Bethesda has some experience from past games and will not do the same things again, second one how much variable animations will be.

The animation on the "Sounds of Skyrim: Video 1" of that Dwemer Sphere looked really good, so I wouldn't worry.

Yes, just like the case of my computer requires specific components! It's what everything is mounted in!
No, the engine has nothing to do with the resources. It loads and uses them, they have to be in a format it understands, but that's /it/. If bethesda want to reuse resources that would be trivial.

There's a reason we have file formats, rather than everything being propriety blobs of data - so that the specific workings of what's reading the file doesn't affect it. I'm sure it's easier to be sarcastic than to have the faintest inkling of a clue what you're talking about, though.

I think it'd even be better if every race had their own sets of animations. It just gives each race it's own "personality" and feel to it. Altmer standing tall and mighty. Woodelves being a bit more laid back and shifty with a little drop of paranoia in there somewhere. Bretons trotting around like nobility or something I dunno. But yeah just different for each one. If a game made in 2004 called WoW can do it (And yes that game also had tons of NPC's and even players running around in the same area at the same time). I think a game in 2011 should be able to as well.

Pretty sure there will be new animations. And since they're adding in finishing moves to mainstream hype things, I bet they'll put much better work into them this time.

The sphere centurion in the sound effects interview is a pretty good sign for the rest of the game's animation.
