Will they have advanced in weapon technology?

Game Informer article.

Ah well in that case.
One could assume some advancement in technology.

No guns please. I like my melee weapons and bows and crossbows. A sling might be fun though. At any rate, we should really have a series of threads (titled "The Great Gun Debate" or something) for people to keep posting that they want guns, and others can say no, thanks. Kind of like this one, but with the same title so it's easy to spot and a million threads aren't created.

Problem is, technology hasn't really been going forward since the first era, save for metallic armor being used more often than leathers.

Funny idea. Use a musket that takes about half a minute to reload or so and misfires for about a mile. Who needs guns when you can dual wield axes and spells (Fingertips x2)... That should own enough. :hubbahubba:

I'm going to make an old wrinkly guy, dress him in a black robe, assign lightning to both hands, and shock people to death like the emperor from Star Wars.

To top it, they should broaden the effects of telekinesis to people, animals, creatures... If it's still in, that is. What did they do to mysticism? As far as I know, the GI article mentioned it was one of the skills they took out.

Will they have advanced in weapon technology?

This is a world where you have medieval long swords alongside 17th century cutlasses and Roman gladius.... not to mention the extinct Dwemer's mechanical creatures. So in which direction is technology going to 'advance'? Chronology doesn't apply. It's fantasy.

Nirn is actually going backwards in technological advancement. Seeing as Oblivion is set just some year from Morrowind, and during that time people forgot how to use several spells and crossbow, I think it is likely that by 200 years the situation would be somewhat like this:

Not everyone in the elder scrolls uses magic. I cannot see why the peasantry would not develop fire arms as a social equaliser and form of defence. Look at the ninja of Japan, they were all farmers who developed their unconventional style of warfare to combat the samurai. In Japan only the samurai were allowed to carry weapons on pain of death. :ninja: :toughninja: :ninja:

However, I personally would not like to see fire arms in the elder scrolls.

Mankind has been thousands of years figuring out nothing but a crossbow so it basicly could jump 8000 years without even a sight of gun powder.

It would be pretty cool if telekinesis allowed you to throw people for physics damage. but i doubt it...

The Empire has collapsed. Tamriel's infrastructure is in shambles. Skyrim was always kind of a backwards place in any case.

If anything, weapons "technology" will be slightly less advanced, or at least less widespread.

If you weren't so innocent you'd know that in any nation decadence means that both hunger and weapons grow. War would mean better weapons but as for the game, i'd hate to see powder.

Don't be condescending. It belittles you and embarrasses everyone else.

And who said anything about decadence? The Empire is all but gone, it seems, and in the chaos maybe there would be better weapons, but just as easily the barbarians hordes will be satisfied killing each other the way they always have.

I doubt this will make it into the game, but then, I'm not keeping you from trying it yourself when it's out.
What a great NPC throwing competition this would make...

Why is this going on still? Why would I use a gun to propel a projectile when I can use telekinesis. A telekinetic bullet would be the equivalent of a railgun. So why create a cannon or musket when you could use a railgun. It's nonsensical. Like I said before all the would be inventors on Nirn are mages. When you live in a universe were you can buy fire scrolls, enchant your crossbow, and where generals and kings can hire battlemages, what's the point of guns.

As for civilization rivalry that brought upon our modern warfare. Nations in Tamriel donate money and research to their local magical guilds. Magic is their equivalent to the bullet, the bomb, the missle, the ICBM.

Mankind went 10,000 years be for such advancements were made, and we didn't have gods [censored] slapping us all the time.

This, i mean we went how long with no guns or anything. 200 years isn't that long of a time. And everytime they start making advances Dagon comes and [censored]s it up, come on Dagon give us a break.

In the real world, we don't have Magic, so we have something of similar power; guns.
However, when Magic is present, and in a large scale (i.e every citizen of Tamriel have access to Magic, either through learned spells or bought scrolls) guns are unnecessary... a mage could easily defeat a marine with a gun: If the marine shoots at the mage, all the mage have to do is to make a protective shield, and right afterward, fire a ball of fire/lighting/whatever at the marine, and he's dead.

And another thing is that even if guns were a necessity in war in Tamriel, we have no idea if Gunpowder can even be made! We don't know if the resources are there to make Gunpowder (Most likely not) - so even if they wanted to, they couldn't. No all resources that are in our world are in Tamriel - quite few of real resources are actually.

And about the explosive satchels from Morrowind, those are probably just enchanted with Magic - that is the most realistic (For TES) answer to that.

Besides, 200 years isn't really enough time if you follow history. Did they go from simple crossbows to guns in 200 years? no - they made bigger and better crossbows, then they used those for many many years, then they got guns. Crossbows in TES are very simple, and in Oblivion there aren't even any crossbows!

No, guns shouldnt be in the elder scrolls.

If bethesda chooses to make more advanced weaponry they should go no further than catapults(sounds like something the dwemer could invent) or so (i could live with catapults but their not necessary)

And im a supporter for crossbows.

i doubt they are going for a fable approach where every game the world goes through a 'revolution'

edit - also, i think right now tamriel is going through a 'dark age' where the people of tamriel are more focused on survival than innovating new weapons

I think guns would be useless in a world where some people can shoot lightning out of their butt.
