So will this game be released for free like Daggerfall and A

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:10 pm

I never played Morrowind, but I would if they released it for free. I can't be bothered to hunt it down. Based on the fact Arena and Daggerfall have been released for free, do you think Morrowind will?

Spring 2012 is Morrowind's ten year anniversary but the game is still available and still runs well on modern OSs so I'm skeptical that they'll release it for free.

They'll most likely hold true to their tradition. But the tradition is after 10 years? They released TES I and II 10 years after release?

I don't think morrowind will be released for free in quite a wile, because unlike Arena and Daggerfall which are both more or less dead Morrowind is still alive and kicking. With such a huge modding community the game constantly gets new updates, more NPCs items and quests as well as its bugs fixed and updated graphics. I think with the right mods this game can rival any modern 360 game out-there. Also unlike the other two which are just in the MBs Morrowind is in the GB. Maybe one day it will be freeware though that depends on how good TES:V will be ;)

You may have a long wait. Iirc it was ten years before they released Arena, and it wasn't the enhanced version that was released as free. They released Daggerfall for the 15th anniversary of the Elder Scrolls series.

The Morrowind and Morrowind goty is still for sale on disc, both in stores and places like Amazon. You can also get all three games- Morrowind, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon- from Steam for $19.99.

Morrowind was slightly ahead of its time. People will still be modding and playing it for another ten years.
It'll always be too "Advanced" to be free.

"Free" games are the downloadable ones that can run on any computer, ever. Morrowind doesn't have that luxury.

Deryck, it's really not hard to track Morrowind down. Amazon among other places have it for sale, and given its age it's usually at a very reasonable price.
Do yourself a favour and get a copy.

I can't see it becoming a free gift just yet. There are several other ES titles that are older than this one that haven't been made available for free like Redguard & Battlespire.

I really wouldn't mind trying out Redguard as a matter of fact. I watched a playthrough on Youtube and it was fascinating to see certain very familiar graphical designs in their pre-Morrowind state.

I would much rather them release Battlespire and Redguard for free first. Morrowind is very easy to find online and it's even sold at some brick and mortar stores to this day. Plus, Bethesda still makes plenty of money off of it. This isn't the case with Battlespire or Redguard, and it wasn't the case with Daggerfall, all of which are easy to find online but really expensive unless you're willing to settle for a used copy.

I went to have a look at prices, and a certain famous online retailer who shall remain nameless was selling Morrowind for less than $20 - I know I have found cheaper new copies but I am in Europe.

I was rather surprised to see that the same site was offering Redguard for $58. I know the demand for this game is somewhat lower but that's daylight robbery. Not a chance that I will spend that much on a 12 year old game.

Does bethesda still sell retail copies or are these left overs? A 12 year old game should be considered free by now and if the company chooses to not let it go in peace lower the prices for Gods sake. I'm with you, ridicules price for a 12 y/o game ('specially when Morrowind is the best game in the series ;))

Well, I don't know if we can say "should" be free, very few commercial companies ever make their products free to their customers.
But I do object to an old game being priced at double what a brand new PC game goes for. However, that's nothing to do with Bethesda. They have no influence over prices retailers think they can get away with charging.

I bought the Morrowind Collector Edition for just 20euros 2 weeks ago. It's dirt cheap, and this is the CE we're talking about.

I can't be bothered to hunt it down.

I am sorry for saying this, but if you can't be bothered, then Frack off. That is so insulting to me, and I would say others (but I will not speak for them). If you can't be bothered to "hunt it down", then why are you here? You my friend are a cheap skate. We could have helped you to look for it, but since you can't bother, why should we?

Just in case you didn't mean it the way I read it, I wouldn't wait for it to become free. It dosn't cost that much. All this does is make you look cheap and frugal. You should get it now, it's a great game to play. I did the wait for Fallout 3 to come down in price so I could save $20 bucks. To my shock, the price never came down, so 9 months later I paid for it for full price. Every penny was worth it. I just say to myself, I wasted 9 months in not playing the game. Same goes for Morrowind for you. You are missing out. Does $10 really mean that much to you? You are missing out.

Again, if you can't be bothered to "hunt" it down, then Frack you. Do not insult me about a game I love that you can't be bothered with it. Go else where.

The CD copies are probably leftovers, but it's also for sale on Steam for $20. As stated, it will be a while, if ever.

Wow, calm down. Everyone has the right to bash any game, even if you find this game 'precious'. For the record, I love Morrowind, and he does come off a bit as a miser, but still.

Hard to track down? I usually find lots of copies at the local GameStop for like $5 or so.

There is one thing about bashing a game, but he hasn't even played it yet, so how can he bash a game he hasn't tried? I can understand peopel bashing Morrowind if they have tried it. He hasn't even tried it. That's what got me so upset. How can you help someone who dosn't want to help himself?

Seeing as how I make 55 thousand dollars, college, and a wife and kid to worry about, sorry I'm trying to get some stuff for free. That 20$ is usually the difference between my little boy getting what he needs and me going under. I don't have enough money or time to order it online, and so I was just asking if I could get it like Daggerfall and Arena. No need for the rant when you don't know ME.

And where did I say the game is bad? Please, point it out.

Deryck, if you make 55k, you've already burned more than the price of the game, talking about a game you haven't played yet. The $20 I payed for the GOTY has yielded several hundred hours of enjoyment. It's probably been the single best entertainment investment of my life.

Truly, if you can't afford the tab on this game, quit talking on game forums and go get a second job.

If you live in the United States, there is absolutely no excuse for not being able to hit up Amazon and order the game for $17 with free shipping. "I don't have time." That is the most ridiculous thing to say.

I lived in the US for 26 years with the benefit of Amazon. You could literally go the rest of your life only setting foot outside of your house to buy groceries. Everything else is available from Amazon.com, at some of the lowest prices, and free shipping. At 26, I moved to Canada where there was nothing even remotely like Amazon, and it took a lot of getting used to. We now have Amazon.ca, but it only carries a fraction of the products as the American site, and the prices aren't on par. So, stop whining, and realize that you have it far better than you think.

Doesn't matter if you make 100k or 20k. If it seems like a worthwhile buy get it, if it doesn't then wait. If Bethesda is still going strong they will release it officially for free me thinks. No need to complain about someone's preferences.
