Will this be on Steam?

Post » Mon Feb 07, 2011 8:52 pm

Will this game be supported by steam? Will we always have to have an internet connection on our pc just to play a single player game?I would rather it be like MW and OB were, non dependent on another party to run.

1) Probably

2) Even if Skyrim requires Steam to run, it'll not require you to have a permanent Internet connection thanks to Steam offline mode.

3) Would rather it not be like MW and OB where you had to dig some old CD to play them :P

4) Isn't that the 42th thread on that topic anyway? Try searching for it a little harder next time.

There'll definitely be a Steam version, there's no doubt about that. Whether the retail version of Skyrim will also require Steam is not known at this point.

I'd bet vital parts of my anatomy that Skyrim will be available through Steam

Internet needed for the initial installation and the convenient forced updates.

Yup! And I fully expect 42 more until such time as the official announcement is made. Then be ready for the posts by those who feel slighted by the final decision. Then this subject will die down on the Skyrim board, where it will lay in wait for the Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls 5 boards.

I think you're missing the part where it dies down before release, then comes back at release, then dies down, then comes back for every patch and DLC, regardless of which decision is made.

Steam will be hard pressed to find any update at all if you keep it in offline mode though.

I hope not, I won't get it for PC if it's required that I have to use Steam. I strongly believe that I shouldn't be forced to sign up for something just to use a product that I just spent 50-60 dollars on. Not to mention that if I even speak out against something that I strongly believe in I lose the ability to play the game. :shakehead: :shakehead: :shakehead: :shakehead: :shakehead:

That was EA, not Steam.
And even that was accidental due to a bug, otherwise that guy would just got banned from the forums.

However, they did state a while back that it would be. But it has yet to be solidly comfirmed. We can assume it will be like New Vegas, and steam will be their DRM.

Since when has Bethesda made linking your forum account to your steam account necessary [or even possible]? EA requires you to register your games on their site, and their eula actually says they can stop you from playing your games if you do something dire enough to warrant it. Whether that eula would be upheld if someone challenged it will be up to the court to decide.

Discussing steam on the forums here, whether you like it or not, isn't a problem. Being stupid enough to say you'll circumvent Steam to play it, crack the game, or outright pirate the game *will* get you banned from these forums. And yes, at least one someone has done that in every single steam thread there has been so far.

There are, I believe, offenses that can get you banned from the steam forums. I don't believe however, that that action blocks your from playing your steam games. I don't use the steam forums, so I haven't read their forum rules and tos. I think I remember seeing they can stop you from playing online with other players, but not your single player campaign/game.

so far there are no signs of skyrim going to be on steam, and i'm starting to doubt it will be there. but WHY would you want it to be on steam when its so much better for you to have the collectors/limited edition?!

Yeah, I stopped going to the FO:NV boards shortly after release so I missed all that.

I don`t see any offline mode option that lets new vegas launch without me being connected online. Nor Black Ops, which is also single player. Fallout 3 needed no cd to run so I don`t see a problem there. Sometimes my internet access is limited or just not there at all. I shouldn`t have to rely on my internet access to play a single player game. I`ll not buy the game if steam is required for it to launch.

I did do a search. I typed in steam and no results came back. And WTF do you even care if there`s 42 other threads? It`s a forum, that`s what it`s for -questions, answers, discussions. I don`t mind a steam version of the game being released. But if I drive to bestbuy or gamestop and buy a physical cd of the game, I shouldn`t need steam for it to launch. I shouldn`t click the game icon for my single player game and get a cannot connect to steam error. Or the steam servers are currently to buzy error.

Open Steam window. In the menu bar on top, choose "Steam" (the first menu on the left) => "Go Offline". If you get a "connect to steam error" just press the "go offline" button that shows up in the error window.

There will almost certainly be a Steam version available, which is fine with me. I just hope that the retail disk version does not require Steam, but only a disk check.

Why would anyone think it's *won't* be available on Steam. What modern game isn't for sale on Steam (other then Stardock games)? Certainly every AAA title is.

Now if it *requires* Steam or is Steam exclusive we don't know yet.

But no matter what you'll certainly be able buy it on Steam like every other game on the planet. :)

I hate those. :sadvaultboy:
(it's nice having downloaded patchers, so you can update the game to the point you need, not whatever the "latest" is.... especially when the "latest" is screwed up.)

Yeah it's likely.

For some people it's more convenient that you don't have to deal with the CD, especially if you weren't planning on getting a collector's edition anyway.

I myself only buy games from Steam directly when they are getting older, because then Steam often has very good discounts (and a physical copy can be hard to find sometimes). Last Christmas I got FEAR 1, the 2 expansions, and FEAR 2 plus the DLC all together for 10 euros, and both STALKER SoC and CoP together for 5 euros. Good luck finding a deal like that in a retail store.

Indeed the choice of which patch to use is important to me. I also like really like downloading a patch then apply it at my leisure

I agree that Beth isn't EA and thank god for that but my main reason is why should you be required to use Steam in order to play a game. It should be optional

Some games I don't mind on Steam, but The Elder Scrolls is [censored] sacred. You don't put TES on Steam! That's sacrilige!
