Will upgrading my system specs matter?

Post » Sat Oct 25, 2014 12:08 pm

I recently upgraded my hardware in preparations for next gen games. During my last Oblivion playthrough, my specs were as follows:

-Windows 8.1 Pro

-EVGA GTX 660 Ti

-Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30 GHz

-8 GB of RAM

Now, it's:

-Windows 8.1 Pro

-EVGA GTX 980 Superclocked 4GB

-Intel Core i7 4790K 4.40 GHz

-8 GB of RAM

I know that Oblivion has the inability to fully utilize multiple cores and what have you, so I guess the question I'm trying to ask is whether or not all of the changes I've made so far are going to make any remote difference in game. Some of you probably remember my "Why is Oblivion crashing so damn much?" thread where I crash every 30-50 minutes, sometimes even lower than that. Not to mention stuttering problems with mods like QTP Redimized and Better Cities. Will my system spec upgrade make any real difference to Oblivion?

Thanks.

Probably not. Your 660 was already more than enough to run the game well. Keep in mind that Oblivion is an old game, and didn't have very high requirements compared to today's systems:

If you were having issues with the game crashing and stuttering, it certainly wasn't because of the lack of quality of your hardware.
