Will the PC version require GFWL or that crappy callhome limited installation [censored] from SONY called Securerom?

If yes on any, I couldnt be arsed to buy it. Just want to know early as I wan't to buy the Collectors edition of the game other wise.

Pretty sure it will use Steamworks, like New Vegas did, but I don't know.

When Steam first started, I was appalled that I would be asked to connect to the internet to play a single-player game at my home. However, now that I have seen developers shy away from making great PC games because of the widespread problem of piracy, I am all for them using things like Steam for everything anymore. It might be the only way for developers to start developing the kind of quality video games again that can only be made for PCs. Consoles are holding back development in many areas as the length of time between each generation is so great, but PC game development has been plagued with pirates. Hopefully that will soon be solved and really great amazing games can be once again developed.

Hopefully they learned their lesson from FO:NV and go back to the way that either Oblivion or FO3 did it.

Heck, I'd go back to code wheels or manual checks, rather than Steam. (And I like Steam, for what it does.... I just think that requiring repeated online DRM for a single player, offline, hardcopy game is absurd.)

Ahhhh yes, the days of manual checks, when a game manual was really a work of literature. I just had a flashback to the mid-1990s when Master of Orion would pause and request the name of the ship on page 53. Those were the days  Yeah, it was a little intrusive and broke the immersion, but I still own that game to this day, and I don't have to worry about anybody's online server "authenticating" me as being worthy of playing the game.

For Skyrim, a disk check or offline keycode is enough; anything more would be too much for a purely single-player game.

Having logged more days into Morrowind and Oblivion on the PC than I can possibly count, I can say that this series is by far the most enjoyable I've ever played. I've never had a problem paying full price for anything through Bethesda because they make phenomenal games and don't treat their customers like crooks. I agree with the above posts when they say how constant checks do more harm than good in games, and while I'm impressed by the success of steam I don't think that is the right way to go either. Lets face facts, piracy isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but if companies continue making invasive (Spore, GTA, etc.) and sometimes debilitating (Assassins Creed) DRM, companies will lose more customers than they would had they not included any DRM at all. My father used to say " locks only keep out the honest people," and its true, a quick survey of torrent sites would reveal that many games requiring invasive DRM, including steam's always-on authentication, are easily accessible. In my opinion if a company makes a quality product, as Bethesda does, people will want to own a legal hard copy over a pirated version anyday. If the game we've all been waiting for since Oblivion is free of things like steam authentication and always-on authentication, I would buy it a hundred times over, but if its not then Bethesda will have lost a diehard fan, and I won't have anything to do with this game.

it lists Games for Windows on the pre-order page. something I am VERY disappointed about. Games For Windows Live will not let me download anything from their servers because I have a Wacom tablet, there's some bug that makes the two conflict. they've known about it for a long time, and have never bothered to fix it. I'd much prefer Steam, I have it on all the time anyway. (besides, Steam DOES have an Offline mode, I don't know where people are getting this constant connection required thing from)

Gonna play Skyrim no matter what. If it's Steam, I'll grit my teeth and use it. If it's GFWL - same deal. If it's GFWL and it won't work for me... then I'll be left with no other choice but to resort to cracks. But I hope I won't need them.

Games for Windows, and Games for Windows Live are different. The chances are that it will be a Games for Windows and require Steam for validation and updates.

GfW and GfWL are very different, in typical Microsoft naming fashion. For a game to be a GfW title it has to be released on windows and adhere to a few basic guidelines (I believe full 360 controller support is a must, for example), a GfWL title has to be released on windows and use the abomination of a system that we all hate.

yeah, GFW just means it runs on Windows. Nothing more, Nothing less. GFWL on the other hand means the game has limited installations + you have to install 250mb with malware which do not hing good at all. And your lucky if it works at all.

Steam is not a problem. That one works. Already have some 280+ games bought on steam.

I'd rather use steam than that buggy piece of garbage (GFWL) any day.

ok, I guess I panicked when I saw the logo. still, I sincerely hope no GFWL, because it would mean I can't download any DLC. the problems I had with Fallout 3 and a (free, but still) addon for Batman: Arkham Asylum made me hate GFWL with a burning passion. I was thrilled when I heard New Vegas had switched to Steam.

Back when I installed Oblivion I was very surprised to see no type of DRM at all. Not even a CD key. Sure, there was a disc check but when you are playing your game every day, why take it out :P

Judging from FO3 and F:NV it will probably be very similar. Hopefully there is none of this securom or online activation once a week crap that many others are putting into their games (UBI, Blizz ect.)

And GFWL, let's pretend GFWL is a cliff racer or perhaps an adoring fan. It is something you want to die BUT IT JUST WON'T STAY DEAD!!!!!!!
