Open the console, click on them, type in "kill"

;)

In all seriousness though, ranged attacks. Their attack is On-Touch so don't let them get near you. Arrows and target spells are the way to go. Detect Life can also help if you have problems keeping track of them when they go invisible-ish.

High magic resistance/absorb/reflect and silver, daedric or enchanted weapon(or magic of course).
Restore attribute spells can be good to use after the fight.

Well, I don't know about best, but my character sneak attacks them from very long range. She uses massive detect life range just in case they decide to disappear. EZ.

If they got close, I expect she would either command them, demoralize them or distract them with a summon while she disappeared herself and circled behind them to shoot.

Buffy's friend who is born under the atronach can just walk right up to a wisp and hug the cuddly little balls of sparkle.

If you have a weapon that can damage them fast enough, they're not too much of a problem to kill, but you almost always need to go to the chapel afterward, because they've used at least one "Damage attribute" spell on you. My character came out of an Ayleid ruin recently with -13 on her intelligence, and she was blonde going in!

Memo to me: Always dye hair before venturing into an Ayleid ruin.

:P

The best way to kill them is ranged attacks, as someone before me said. Don't let them get close and they won't be a problem.

They are wonderful mobile magicka refueling stations for Atronach!

Very pleasant creatures indeed.

Anything silver, daedric or magical will ;)

And that means you can use silver arrows with any bow or a silver bow with any arrows or any enchanted bow or arrows. Lots more options for the archer.

Here is my method -

There is a spell available at lower levels called "Sever Magicka". Cast the spell at it 3 times in succession, then hack at it with a silver sword. After 4 or 5 hits, cast the spell 3 times again, then hack again...rinse...repeat. Time consuming but effective.

Now, this I did not know. I've only selected to be born under the Atronach once before, and I couldn't stand the fact that my magicka wouldn't refill itself. But knowing this, I might decide to give it another try sometime.

I could give you the recipe for Lothran′s Natural Disaster spell, but I′m afraid that if I do I′m likely to get it in my face :flamed:

Silver or daeric arrows hurt them and silver, daeric or enchanted bows hurt them. The bow actually doesn’t have to have any charges left to do physical damage. If one of this conditions is true they take normal damage.
Simplest solution if you use an unenhanced bow is to carry some silver arrows.

They do more physical damage, but they are useless against wisps unless you are using a silver, daedric, or enchanted bow.

Wisps along with ghosts and some other creatures have an immunity to "normal weapons" which is anything besides daedric, silver, and enchanted stuff.

The whole reason behind this is that if you think about it a ghost isn't really a solid object you can strike normally, so the game makers decided that you could hit them, but only if you have certain special weapons.
