Will you be able to see your legs?

Post » Wed Sep 21, 2011 6:41 am

This is how I imagine videogame characters to be in games where you can see your feet. It's always unnatural looking, and even in games with the best animation, first person body animation looks horrible when you watch your feet sliding around.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but i'm new to the Forums.
In First Person, Will you be able to see your legs or body when you look down? It seemed in Oblivion you were just a floating head with arms.

And while i'm at it, would your arms in 1st person seem like they're actually part of the Game? For example your sword actually going through stuff, not looking like it never hit the object it just looks like it gets smaller comparing to what it hits.
sorry it's hard to explain the 2nd Question.

No you wont, good thing too because for starters it wouldn't affect game play. Unless you wan't to argue that it adds pointless realism. In my opinion it would be a waste of resources. Ill rather have the view distance enhanced or something more useful.

if you don't shave your legs in skyrim (you cant because it's medieval setting)

Uhh, so you could shave your legs in a modern setting? Is their a minigame for it?

If you want to see your legs, just run around naked in 3rd person mode. That should do it.

I never got the feeling everybody else does. Unless you walk around with your head majoringly down, I don't think any of us while walking on a normal basis realizes their legs. Sure if you looked down cause you saw something on the floor, but for the most part even in real life your legs are maybe out of the corner of your eyes, but you don't really see them when you walk.

It's not really a Useless feature, in Oblivion i could never tell if i was about to fall off an edge in a few steps or not because my Legs weren't there o.o

it's probably more complicated but i always just imagined you could have it like 3rd person but have the Camera Viewing from the characters Face.

There are lots of mountains in Skyrim. I'm pretty sure we'll look a lot down from mountains. Legs would enhance the "I'm there, very close to the edge and need to be careful"-feeling.

Well then you have some pretty bad real life as well as video game direction. You don't need to look at your legs to know where and edge is. As stated it's fine and seems realistic enough because even I don't pay enough attantion to my legs when walking.

You can see what happens to your body in first person if you type in tfc, fly around, and look at yourself. They probably do this so you can't look down and see through yourself or it prevents some other clipping issue.

Not paying attention even when walking on close mountain edges? Good luck in real life ;)
There's a saying "watch where you go".

This is not about knowing where the edge is, this is about enhancing the experience, for instance the "I'm there, very close to the edge and need to be careful"-feeling.

Look down with your head, survey the land beforehand, etc. I don't need to look down at my feet to know I'm walking alongside a mountain edge in real life. I can feel it and I have already seen the edge.

We in real life do not notice our legs, it seems perfectly fine and realistic in Skyrim. The close to the edge feeling would be to lose your balance first person or non first person.

I wonder why Bethesda is having a rough time or, are reluctant to implement fp legs in their series considering the fact their games is mainly FP? Many games nowadays are doing that. I remember that some modder in Oblivion(I think his name was LeSombre) did a buggy but pretty nice attempt. If an aficionado coder came close with his meager understanding of the engine, how come the senior pros at Beth don't do it?

Then I assume you're someone with low self esteem and no confidence in yourself if you walk with your head constantly down.

Well third person is more improved now so using that is one was you can see your legs, but as for not being able to see the rest of your body in first person I guess the reasons DarkDeliverians stated.
