How would being able to see your body be detrimental to gameplay?
Edited that post btw.
For one I've disliked it in the rare examples it's been in. Two because clearly the detriment to gameplay is why I've never seen a fully realistic 1st person game where you see your legs and arms flail and you reach out to touch everything and wrap your hands around everything realistically.
Your playing one of the most anti-realism genres of game in the first place. Statistics derived(Plus roleplay) RPG then there's the topical genre of fantasy. Lop on that realism and your going a bit overboard.
Furthermore all that 1st person realism takes up viewing space and the sound animation needed for flailing arms when walking though not always.
And a glimpse of your nose and then seeing your lip and facial features like a mustache or beard when looking down too. And if you have long hair it should show at the top of the screen too.
All take away from the actual world, gameplay, and screen real state.
Well you might suggest just legs, torso, and arms or maybe just legs. But then why take a subpar route if even that isn't "realistic"?
