Will you be able to...

Post » Tue Sep 14, 2010 10:23 am

Hi there, I think there's a real communal excitement here as we await TESV and i'm just as excited as anyone else..

Now, this is going to appear a troll question on the surface, however it is actually an interesting thought..

Can you dual wield shields?

Now i've heard of this battle tactic in historical terms (I think it was perhaps Samoans or another similar army) who used a few of these men as.. well pretty much a 'tank' who could push the enemy back with one whilst covering his comrades. I only question this as I know you can recruit companions and to have a large Nord or such like as a big aggro stealer would be an interesting approach to dealing with a dragon..

Thanks :)

I'm not sure, think we'll be able to dual-wield lockpicks too?

They are messing with companions and wanting to add much more depth to that...the mechanics could be possible.

Dual-wield poison apples?
Dual-wield skooma pipes? <-will try it while relaxing at my mountainside villa.

I've heard this, but I've never acually seen the source. Does anyone have the source?

No, that chart was a joke. It wasn't made by Bethesda, nor did any Devs acknowledge that chart being accurate at all.

@Friendlybear I thought one of the previews coming out of the Park City, Utah demo said we could?

I'm pretty sure that's inaccurate info, because I do remember Todd or Pete, or someone, stating that no, you cannot dual wield shields. I'll try to find a link, but I am using an Ipod :o

Why not just straight up drink it like a man? Er, but then again I'm not an avid Skooma-user... :whistling:

I believe the IGN preview had a chart for weapon possibilities and labeled the dual shield wielder the "confused turtle". I have yet to see anyone from Bethesda confirm it. Sure would make block an easy skill to master though.

The DS game Phantasy Star Zero is the only game I ever heard of using Dual Wielding shields. Even then I couldn't figure out why anyone would do it. A lot of protection for very little damage. Could make fights last longer I guess, but why would you want that?

Because, as i wrote in the original post, i would gear a companion - preferably a hench character with them to take aggro and knock them down whilst i play my traditional archer role.. :D

Seems like this new system should allow it.

It doesn't seem like they'd go out of their way to specifically make shields the only one-handed thingamabob that you couldn't dual-wield.

I see no reason why you can't dual wield shields.

We already know that shields can be equipped to either hand, right?

And we already know that shields can be used as a weapon to come extent by ramming people, right? As ineffective as it may be in battle, I really can't see them not allowing you to do it.

Bottom right corner, proof that it can be done. http://gaminghud.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/The-Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim-One-in-Each-Hand.jpg

EDIT: Nevermind - I see someone already linked this.

That drawing was not done by anyone at Bethesda and has already been confirmed through Bethesda that there is no dual-wielding shields. I'm sorry I don't have link to "prove it", but it's true.
