Will you do a blind playthrough or use a game guide?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 5:46 am

For you first run? I'm going in blind as a bat, unless I come across some annoying quest glitch, which I'm sure youtubers and forum posters will already have info posted about them. I don't really care about trophies and collectables enough for that to be my sole purpose for playing a game.

blind, always. I will get the guide, for lore purposes, but like any other guide I get, it won't get looked at until I have completed the game, or gone as far as I want to in the game.

Mostly blind, I'll use wiki info for getting weapon stats etc, maybe more in dept perk info, but otherwise I'll go in blind as far as quests and story things are concerned.

I never use game guides. They ruin the experience for me.

I'm gonna get the guide book for my second run through but my first one will be blind as a bat. I'm getting excited just thinking about it!

Always blind, there's no other way to play! gamesas games aren't that deep or unforgiving so I don't feel a need to follow anyone's advice or a guide. Not a knock against them, mind you, just the way it is with TES/new Fallouts.

My biggest concern about Bethesda RPG's is completing quests too early that automatically prevents you from completing another quest due to annoying glitches. Quest's you can unknowingly glitch like http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/You_Can_Depend_on_Me in Fallout New Vegas is a good example of what I hope is not an unresolved issue in Fallout 4.

Blind playthrough, absolutely. Nothing more thrilling than convening with my friends after we've had extended play sessions with a game of this caliber and revel in our successes and frustrations. There's just a certain magic that's lost when someone initiates their bit with "Well, i was on the wiki..." A certain intensity and genuine feeling is lost when the experience isn't as organic as possible. I have no discrimination towards anyone that wants to utilize any reference material, i just prefer to share my experiences in a community where we share a similar, isolated ideal when enjoying the game.

Typically I only look at guides if I get stuck on a puzzle. Or if there is like a unique I'm hunting for and I wanna know the location. Other than that, I just kinda...you know...play the game.

Who uses a guide for their first playthrough? I mean, don't you play through the first time blind, then MAYBE look at a guide for the second to see what you missed?

First play is usually blind. Follow ups are with wiki's.

I have been wondering the exact same question OP. I have always used a guide-wiki back in the old Oblivion days, as that game required a knowledge of the leveling system, enchanting etc. I am hoping for a completely blind game experience this time. Hopefully Beth do not make things too rough for us with day 1 bugs.

Does avoiding this web site also count? People have a bad habit of posting spoiler things in the general.

Ha. There will be (hopefully few, but I've read their occasional posts) people who open the game guide and pretty much follow the quests through off the page. That's not how I play, play-through one will be 'blind'.

The dilemma comes with how many demos to watch.

I remember spoiling myself with 3 of the early quests for Fallout 3.

Exactly.

I mostly only used guides back in the day, on my second play of JRPGs. First play to experience it myself, second to try to do everything (rarely actually got 100%, just due to a handful of ludicrous activities, like dodging 200 lightning bolts in FF X. But 99.5%). Nowadays, there's less point in guides, what with the internet. Also, haven't played that many JRPGs (or had the time for two runs on them).

I have never used a guide in my life, there is no fun in playing a new game while reading where and what to do.
