Will you die if horses aren't announced?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2009 8:00 am

I wouldn't die but, I'd be aggravated. I couldn't be without my horse in Oblivion, let alone seeing over the lengthy grass in 1st person (not a fan of 3rd person). Getting (walking/running) up mountains hills was nearly impossible without one. However, I didn't enjoy everything and it's mother aggroing to my horse. I think I've bought 3 horses so far in a 60+ hour play-through 'cause of it. Which isn't much really but, it's still annoying.

I'd hope Skyrim wouldn't be as stale as just horses though. Hopefully we'll have some other types of mounts as well.

If no mounts. Then yeah, most likely not going to play it, sadly. It's that important to me. :P

Other mounts- Yeti piggyback rides!

I really wouldn't worry about horses. I'm fairly certain they'll be in the game. Todd has said on a few occasions that they would like to include horses, and in one interview said "they're looking good at the moment." I have every confidence that Bethesda can pull it off, and are already well on the way to doing so. Their reluctance to confirm them at this stage is merely because they're not quite ready, and if they did have to pull them out for some unexpected reason they don't want hordes of angry fans asking why they said they were in when they're not - much as happened when they confirmed Radiant AI for Oblivion too soon.

I'm certainly not worried. I completely agree with this sentiment and fully expect ride able mounts/horses. In my case, withholding the confirmation will have failed to protect me from disappointment if they are by some chance removed. But... like you said, I fully expect them to be in. Now if only we could get ride able mammoths confirmed. :celebration:

One thing that really excites me about this is that I've been playing Red Dead Redemption (RDR) and riding horses through the country side is really cool. They animate so well and the sounds of galloping sound great. Just riding them through the country side really brings a whole new level to it that just wasn't there for Oblivion, whether you're just trotting along or barreling at full speed. It just feels awesome!!! So it's exciting to me that I'll probably get to experience this in the world of the Elder Scrolls, in Skyrim.

And you're making that assumption based on...? We know they can grab and swoop down, we don't know if it's possible to escape them or out-trick them. And also, think mounted combat.

Judging from what I've seen and read, dragons are going to behave and have the same abilities that they do in general culture. They'll be very large, so being able to grab a large horse will be easier for them than trying to grab a human who can dodge behind a tree or a rock in order to escape it's claws. They'll also be alot more visible than a human on foot, who can use cover in order to sneak up to a dragon. So being on a horse is going to be more of a liability than an asset. Or at least it should be.

Absolutely, RDR's horses were absolutely beautiful. If we get anything like that in Skyrim, I will be extremely pleased.

My statement was based on the opinion (not mine) that horses would be good to have in game even if they stand around doing nothing and having no impact other than something to look at.
If horses are just a visual touch in the game without being used by NPCs at the very least, it would be a waste of time leaving them in except as a file for modders to develop.

I don't care :stare:

J/k  I wasn't paying attention

They would add to the immersion, besides what would pull the (confirmed) carriages? :stare:

I'd say i wouldnt care, but they've already worked on them so much it would be wasted efforts not to include them, even if they are just visuals.

I've had horses in real life, but when I first tried riding one in Oblivion it was frustrating. It took some time to get good at it...my riding skill was a keyboard skill. Now, I love having a horse and would miss it. I won't die without them as Skyrim seems to have a lot of other great things going on, but I would miss having them and would find it annoying if they were in game and I couldn't ride, or if guards could ride them and I couldn't. We may have to settle for cart ponies and/or pack mules.

They do need a lot of improvement from the ones in Oblivion though. Being able to command them would be important. There's so much more which could be done with them and I've sure read a lot of great suggestions in this and other threads.

I definately want improvements, but would settle for less than RDR perfection. I would miss having one to ride and for companionship, ALOT.

What I wouldn't give to have a controller I could work with my feet for riding too. Hmmmm, a controller for running and jumping even without a horse would be great. It would free up my hands for other things. But that's another thread...

Yes I will literally just drop dead if there are no horses jk
Horses are pretty much confirmed in since they were in the trailer. But I'm indifferent to whether mounts are in or not because I never used then much.

Id actually be pretty disapointed if horses, or mounts in general aren't in... especially since Skyrims map will be pretty big.. I don't see why it wouldn't work anyway. Unless its a Fallout sized map.. which I heard it isn't.

I really don't care if they manage to implement mounted combat or not, it would be nice, but I would be quite displeased if horse mounts were excluded simply because Bethesda couldn't achieve this 'lofty' goal...but to be driven to suicide over the issue...well I think not.

In all honesty, I don't care if my mountable horse needs its own horse to help pull it along, I would prefer to have them rideable in the game even if their movements and interactions are still awkwardly stiff, clumsy and clunky.

I voted for the second one.

If they can't be done well in the time allotted, I'd rather them just pass on them. They could always be brought back in a DLC.

And their Armour :whistling:

Just a poll to see what opinion people have on whether horses should be in the game or not... My vote goes to 'I don't mind either way', on the one hand it would be a bonus if horses were in but I'm not going to end it all if they don't make the final cut. Thoughts?

they have been seen in the trailer near the windmill on youtube type in Ign rewind tesV

I don't really care for horses, even more so if they do as Oblivion did.In my opinion mounted combat hardly ever brings anything to most games but more balancing issues and development time.Especially for an Elder Scrolls game.

I really couldn't care wether they are in or not, I personally found them to be one of the most useless things in Oblivion

I hope riding horses makes a come back, with or without mounted combat it still is a big deal for me when it comes to world atmosphere and simulation. I haven't played other games with horses, so I wouldn't know how good it can get, but I enjoyed riding in Oblivion.
