Will you ever try a no-mods playthrough?

Post » Sat Jul 23, 2011 4:55 pm

I will start by playing vanilla, but if certain mods become availabe that enhance appearance, such as clothing, hair/eyes/makeup etc., then those will be used if I lke them.

No uber swords or anything of that nature.

Assuming I end up getting it, I'm actually considering playing the game without dragons in it for awhile, just to see what that's like first.

I will be playing with out any mods. Playing on the 360, so the only non vanillia stuff I will be playing is the Official DLC. Not sure if you would consider that a mod or not.

So I voted Yes for no mod play through. Will have to change it if you consider DLC mods though.

This. Nothing that changes the base game or anything (items, skills, spells) in it, unless purely cosmetic or for streamlining purposes (such as an anti-stuttering or a utility that allows for more of your hardware to be utilized).

I've actually never done a modded playthrough with Morrowind and Oblivion even though I play on PC. :teehee:

I plan to continue that practice in Skyrim.

Heathen :brokencomputer: :obliviongate:

you know, i never got the point of nvde mods, rarely ever did you view anyone nvde for one reason or another. Oblivion never offered any ops to appreciate Nudity beyond a corpse :P unless you had a mod to supplement it, the general idea seems moot.

you need to play the game to see what needs fixing/taking out so yes I will have a playthough vanilla after ~200 hours it will start to get repetitive especially if there is blatant glitches in game that were never patched and mods here I come

I play without them until there's some good mods to play. Are people honestly not going to play until there''s that first mod that just changes the texture of coins? That was one of the first Oblivion mods if I'm not mistaken. Why change a game you've never played?

EDIT: Also, why make a poll when you're just going to make it extremely biased? They're just minor variations of your own opinion.

:3

in all seriousness the only mod i've ever thought was vital for Fallout 3 was the ironsights mod, and to a lesser degree ACE/Triage. for Oblivion simple tweaks to combat damage make it fun enough for me to play for a while, and for Morrowind all i need is magicka regeneration and Tamriel Rebuilt and i'm good for 20 hours.

for Skyrim, unless combat feels as slow and plodding as Oblivion, based on everything i've seen so far i really don't think i'll NEED any mods at all. i'd actually get it for my 360 if i wasn't so bad with first-person controls on a gamepad. so more than "trying a no-mods playthrough" i'm not so sure i'll ever need to do a playthrough WITH mods until really huge overhauls come out that add a ton of stuff.

How will you know what you want modded without an initial playthrough?

It doesn't take long to see whether my character's underwear looks stained and lumpy. I don't even require that it look stylish. I just want it to be clean and to fit properly.

The question implies that it is not the norm to play the vanilla game.

I will definitely play through Skyrim from beginning to end and every side quest and dungeon that I can find before I start modding anything, same as Morrowind and Oblivion. If I don't like something, I'll svck it up because I might find it to be fun and rewarding a few hours later. Only if something completely hinders the gameplay will I consider modding it out.

Probably not. I'll be playing around with the CK during my first play through. Probably add a small house in the starter town, wherever that ends up being, with some simple storage and the like. I'll add armor/weapon mods as ones I like get released. Little bug/annoyance fixes along the way.

I tend to shy away from the major overhauls anyway, and it'll take a while before we see any major quest/adventure type mods.

It really depends on the System specs. My laptop has screaming processing and RAM, sadly I think the 230 won't get any higher than minimum shiny shiny on the machine. It was the only card available to the thing when I bought it last year. If that is the case I have to pray that the Ps3 is just as optimized as the 360 (hint hint bethesda how bout some ps3 footage) but if not then I will wait a year and build a screamin desktop. By then some really great Mods will be out for the game.

First playthrough is usually without mods for me.It was like that with Morrowind and Oblivion, until I reached a high enough level (MW) or lost my save games (OB).
I guess I'll play a vanilla Skyrim first.

i wont play skyrim moded at all, i dont play morrowind moded or oblivion moded, why should i play skyrim, some of these mods help, but most of them are just not lore friendly and simply stupid, like most of those japonese anime like mods, its just not for me, i dont even think skyrim will need mods at all.

First playthrough, maybe including a mod to make essential character's who are not part of a quest or needed non-essential.

If your going to make a poll, do it right.

My first playthrough will be light on mods, but I like browsing them and if I run across one that looks decent I won't hesitate to give it a try. Early mods I use will generally be those that make ambient changes as opposed to those that make core gameplay changes. I'll probably use the obligatory 'no essential characters' type mod as well as the inevitable 'perk every level' mod that will be out the very first week, though.

I will be doing my first playthrough on PS3 to prevent myself from using mods, and using TGM while over encumbered.

???
console on consoles? How does it work?

On topic:
start the game...play...see the flaws...search for mods.
Did it the same way with new vegas & it turned out to be much more challenging & immersive. (reduce the amount of stims, only stimpacks heal, companions use ammo etc etc)
Besides..there will be so many tweaks/fixes for convenience, why shouldn't I use them?

Now that's some high expectations. Perhaps you could try the lore friendly mods? It generally does make the game better.

I don't need no stinking mods!

I play on console. ;-D I like it better than PC, and I've played on all platforms. I much prefer the Xbox to anything else.

Probably not. It only took the tutorial before I knew I wanted a mod that changed PC levelling in Oblivion and I'd expect to know some of what I would feel could be improved about Skyrim well before completing a playthrough.
