Will you ever try a no-mods playthrough?

Post » Sat Jul 23, 2011 2:53 am

Now that's some high expectations. Perhaps you could try the lore friendly mods? It generally does make the game better.

perhaps... is incredible how most of the lore-friendly mods that i've downloaded ( like the ones that add new provinces to the world) never worked correctly, maybe the files are simply corrupted or im a idiot...and i have no doubt this game is going to be one of the bests i will have, and definitly a GOTY... i've been waiting for a tweak and upgrate on the TES lore for quite some time, cant wait for the dremora, and my old friend the dwelmer to make an reapearence.

Heathen :brokencomputer: :obliviongate:

you know, i never got the point of nvde mods, rarely ever did you view anyone nvde for one reason or another. Oblivion never offered any ops to appreciate Nudity beyond a corpse :P unless you had a mod to supplement it, the general idea seems moot.

But Morrowind did. All these naked Nords standing in the wilderness. It's hilarious with nvde mods...they don't even cover that part when I appear.

Absolutely not. Albeit, I'll run very few mods the first time through to get a feel for it, but I'll be centering the 3'rd person camera before I even load the game provided the Creation Kit does ship with the game.

Playing on a 360. Have no choice. Would on a PC, too.

Where's the option for "I'll never use mods"? Or is that concept impossibly incomprehensible?

Unless they do the game perfectly I'll likely use mods before I'm done with my first play through. In Oblivion for example things like visibly seeing I opened a chest, toggling Khajiit night-eye rather than it being a spell to cast over and over, and seeing visibly that a plant for alchemy was harvested were all things I loved adding during my first play through. Granted those were only there since I didn't play Oblivion at launch (I didn't even know about TES when it launched).

I also don't tend to make multiple characters, though I might for Skyrim, and because of that it's likely I'll use mods before I'm totally through the game.

Of course not, there is no need to make a first play through. Things like the UI have to be changed immediately:

  • No compass markers.
  • Get rid of indicators that things are owned by someone
  • Get rid of all the informational type messages and sounds:
    • You have found
    • You have contracted disease
    • You have gotten a quest
    • Quest has been updated/completed
    • Skill up
    • etc.

There will be a need for a darker dungeons (and night) mod. In the event they failed to include a Free Look capability, again, then that will need to be coded as well. But those tend to be what I consider my must haves.

I just hope your right on the Quality of the game. I am starting to get worried about the quality of the gameplay content. I understand they have the fear of another OB fiasco but the little info they have released are just features intended for the general public. The toolkit is an awesome resource but it shouldn't become a reliance to make a great game. *grumbles* Info dry spell

I would love to say yes.... As my first playthrough of anything is usually in vanilla format. However, Oblivion shattered that concept for TES for me. I have no doubt that some hand-holding device implemented will be simply too much to bear and will need removed. Also, anything that increases texture sizes and upgrades the vanilla package will be installed as they are released.

I only run the unofficial patches for OB now and I'll likely continue this practice. So I doubt I'll ever install real mods.

I've actually never done a modded playthrough with Morrowind and Oblivion even though I play on PC. :teehee:

I plan to continue that practice in Skyrim.

Same, the only time I've ever modded is after I completed everything, and then I added a couple of mods just to use when I'm bored.

It depends. Like all my games I play without mods until I find something I want tweaked. After that, I use mods.

Also, if I see a mid and think: Yeah, that makes sense - I want that, then the mod goes straight into the game immediately.

How will you know what you want modded without an initial playthrough?

Sometimes it's as plain as the nose on your face to see what you want to change. After I fired up New Vegas for the first time it only took maybe five minutes of playing to realize that there was something that was driving me insane...to the point of not even continuing playing the game. Other times it will take a playthrough or three before you realize that something isn't quite right.

Personally, I'm hoping that I can do what I was able to do in Oblivion, and that's actually make it all the way through the game twice before I started going crazy with the mods.

You actually play with the vanilla HUD and menu system?

Was it the recurrent "You take a sip from your trusty Vault 13 canteen..." message or ...? I wasn't going to mod it either, but that's what convinced me otherwise, along with the off centered 3'rd person cam thing.

I play on both the 360 and the PC, but I find that I enjoy playing it on the 360, more so.... I'm not a fan of mods... They always feel fake and hollow to me, like they're polluting the game itself...

I agree with this. A lot of mods sometimes just don't feel like they fit very well, either. But there are some that manage well enough.

Good to see you around, haven't seen you for a while. Anyway, no it wasn't, it was actually that horrendous third person camera view that drove me insane. That also drove me to open the GECK and fix it myself. Now if only I was creative and patient enough to do some modeling and texturing.

Good to see you too, barretsfloyd :) I kinda vanished there for awhile and have been tinkering with and playing Oblivion.

Yeah, the camera was something I couldn't bear either. The Dead Spaces have the same camera problem and, IMO, would have been a lot more enjoyable had they been modable. Same with Arkham Asylum.

I might... nah, probably not.

I just love the BTMod in OB.

As soon as the Creation Kit is released, I will make 2 small mods for purposes of altering my first playthrough

1. Skyrim Poverty Mod
  • Increase all merchant prices by 5x
  • Reduce all selling prices to merchants for stolen goods by 5x
  • Reduce all other selling prices to merchants by 2x

2. Skyrim Perk Extension
  • change the perk level limit cap from level 50 to level 70

Since my first playthrough will probably last 6 months to 1 year, if Bethesda does not release a high res texture pack for PC, but someone else does, then I will install that during my first playthrough as well.

I won't install a single mod without some sort of Mod Manager.

IF, I find a mod that makes the UI more efficient, of course I will mod the game...
Or, a animation mod, something that is annoying...

I think it's certain that I'll use mods...
But there is no way to know which mods I'll use...
