Will you Fast Travel?

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 3:40 am

Never! I like to take my time for exploration

I do to. That's why I fast travel alot. Saves me time going over already explored areas, so I've got more time available to explore new places with. :)

Just like I did with Fallout New Vegas, I won't be fast traveling on my first play through, but once in a while on subsequent ones.

Thats what i did with New Vegas, You just have to get to know the land before you begin to fast travel

As I have since Oblivion, the only time I use it is if I need to quit playing or just generally absolutely have to get to a safe location quickly.
The traveling is half the fun for me, I want to get lost in the game.

Absolutely have to get to a safe location quickly :) Like when there`s an enemy chasing you and you can`t fast travel :)
Not sure what you mean exactly :P

Basically all I'm saying is I wont use it unless I have to, or in other words very infrequently.

First of all for everyone to clueless to notice, your aren't being teleported when you use fast travel. The game is just taking out the travel time you have to do. The game makes time pass, just as if you actually traveled the distance yourself. Second of all, there's nothing wrong with fast travel. It's not like your cheating or anything, it's bulit into the game. Why should I have to spend all my playing time walking to my destinations? Would the Knights of the Old Republic been any fun if they actually had you watch the full time it takes to get between planets? Hell no! I don't really see why this is different. If you want to walk everywhere then thats your opinion, but don't try to get the freature to be taken away, because some of us have a lief.

I want to try never. And to accomplish that I plan on getting a travel services mod.

I just enjoyed them more, it felt more fluid.

Can anyone confirm this?
I would LOVE if this were true. I don't want any locations on my map when I start to be honest.

i confirm this!! yes but fallout 3 was this way , fallout new vegas was this way, it is just alot more interesting this way, morrowind was this way, there is no reason to ruin exploration since they are creating the entire map by hand, so i think it is pretty much obvious it is like that
i bet when we pass the beggining part( ussualy a tutorial or somenthing to introduce you to the game and story) we will be given a quest to go to a city, or a village to find the blade voiced by max von sidow, or somenthing related to "finding civilization".

Very infrequently.

In Oblivion, I usually used fast travel if I forgot something. Like if I was journeying from Anvil to Leyawiin, and somewhere around Skingrad I remembered that I forgot something, I would fast travel back to Anvil, grab what I forgot, then fast travel back to Skingrad and continue on. I enjoy the environment, the music, seeing the cities off in the distance. I guess in short, I enjoy traveling everywhere :) I've still used it when I didn't have to, but I am typically in no hurry playing TES.

In contrast, I used it all the time in New Vegas because I didn't care much for the game, so I was just trying to blow through it and finish it. But in a game that I really like, like TES, I want the game to last as long as possible.

Not sure what in Oblivion "ruined exploration".

Except for the fact that you could fast travel to places other than the major cities once you'd found them, it was basically identical to Morrowind - at the beginning of the game, you could fast travel between the major cities.

Okay, it also cost money in MW. But you could still "teleport" to other major hubs. At which point you then had to walk out to discover other nearby places.

Just like in Oblivion - you could get to the other major hubs, and then you had to walk out to places.

...and honestly. Cyrodiil, for all that it can't keep any of it's forts in repair, was still basically a "civilized" country. I can't imagine most citizens not knowing where the major cities are. Certainly can't imagine them printing maps that don't have them marked.

I tried walking all around Oblivion but it got old, so I started using it just between big cities and settlements along the road.

Hopefully the scenery will be a bit more dynamic in Skyrim.

For future reference, polls like this require a "it depends" option. Because, it does.

If I need to go back to a city FROM a dungeon and I already walked that way to reach the dungeon, I'll fast travel because it's pretty much guaranteed I'll have looted all of the plants along the way and slain all of the bad guys, so it would only be worth raising Athletics, which is, not worth it.

I guess "occasionally" works, but "it depends" sounds better to me.

I'll be using it a lot, once I've discovered a location. Of course, I also plan to do a lot of exploring.

I won't be using the fast travel system if it's anything like what was in Oblivion.

I hope not.

If this game contains more of those quests that are set up like "go to Chorrol so that Modryn can tell you to go to Anvil so that Azzan can tell you to go to Bruma, then go back to Anvil so that Azzan can tell you to go to Chorrol so that Modryn can tell you to go to Leyawiin," then yes - I'm sure as hell going to use fast travel. I'd rather not, but I have my limits.

If by "Fast Travel" you mean "Use a common-sense paid travel service that is part of a fast travel network that only provides access to cities and large villages", then Yes, I will.

If by "Fast Travel" you mean "Use a magical map that teleports me to any destination that I have ever been to for free (time is not a cost since there are time contraints on anything)", then No, I will not.

You should clarify so that I can cast my vote...

Yeah of course I'll use it to revisit places I've already been to, which is it's purpose. But to travel to new places straight away, well the new carriage system is for that. No more teleporting. Get a carriage and pay. Or hike it. ^^

When I first played Oblivion, I didn't even know this feature existed. I had to run from the Imperial City all the to Anvil and back for a Dark Brotherhood mission. Man,I saw lots of beautiful scenery on the way... When I think of it, fast traveling svcks... I will try to only use the carriages this time!

I will fast-travel even though I was strongly opposed to Oblivion's fast travel even though it was optional. However, I am very excited that Skyrim has Morrowind-style travel, and even though I will not use it, I am glad it's there.
