How do we know if we'll enjoy modding Skyrim, since we haven't played it, or know anything about the game or its CS?

And I'm sure most people here will agree that they'll always mod Morrowind, even if they mod plenty of other games too.

Morrowind. I'm not even getting TESV on release - who is to say it'll even be any good? By which I mean, "even better than TESIII and TESII combined." I still have DF to play, and what with DaggerXL opening up the ability to mod the game... :D

Ive toyed with the idea of starting a project for Skyrim already, laying out basic plot stuff and preparing some models after i see some in game footage...i cant really commit either way though.

I've thought about the idea of modding Skyrim. But I'd really have to know more about it.

Probably not - there's too much to do for Morrowind. I will probably play Skyrim though.

That would be interesting. TES V is released, all modders move to Daggerfall instead...

There has been no word if there will even be a construction set with the new engine for Skyrim yet.

Let's say there is one though

If the new engine doesn't use nif then new tools will need to be created for texturing, blender may need new functionality for importing models

The scripting language needs to be understood

How quests are tracked - and what dialogue system is used will all need to be understood

At first there will be a stampede of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/User:Wrye/Somewhat_Acerbic_Modders_Dictionary#F mods... in various cup sizes no doubt - once the dust settles from that there will begin a secondary rush of me-too modders who grab someone elses previous work from an earlier game and offer it up as their own - normally these pests get eliminated really quick

By this stage some of the real Tes enthusiasts will have completed a playthrough and be familiar enough with the story to want to get into the mechanics of how things work

I hope some tutorials will emerge - a scripting for dummies and world building for dummies would be great - maybe even some animation guides

Until those things turn up I'll likely just play through the game and get used to what's going on and wonder if there is anything missing - I mean the mods i enjoy fill in some blank parts of the canvas bethesda provided, having a slingshot or a quarterstaff or better faces/hairs clothes companions quests

I think it's unknown what will really happen until we get confirmation what modding tools will be available

I think that it will be quite similar to Oblivion, Fallout 3 & New Vegas, but better. Sure that it will be available, an Elder Scrolls without CS is simply inconceivable! :shocking:

I hope that Skyrim= Morrowind II.

oh god, that'd be awesome. a dream come true really.

i dunno about skyrim. it'll likely be some time before i even get to play it. if it's too much like oblivion and fallout, prolly not. fun games, but not as replayable, if you ask me.

We have no idea if it'll even have a CS, and if it does, how friendly will it be for us simpletons?
If it's difficult, then hell no I won't touch it.
If the game passes as mediocre again, then hell no I still won't touch the CS.
Regardless, I'll still be in MW. But even if Skyrim is the greatest game ever, that CS better be smiling at me.

I just thought about this.
I haven't released any mods for Morrowind yet, and I'm not sure if any of the two mods I'm working on will ever be finished, so I can't really answer this for myself. But I did think about planning a large questmod, which would be ready to be constructed, when Skyrim is released, but then probably not, since I can't create it all anyway.

I know this topic also came up, when Oblivion was released (eventhough that was before I started playing Morrwoind) and Morrowind survived, eventhough I can't tell how much impact it had on Morrowind modding eventually. People usually says, that Morrowind will live forever, because it survived Oblivion. But Morrowind and Oblivion provides a different gaming experience and most people here prefere Morrowind, because they see Oblivion as an inferior game, which is technically better, but are lacking in gameplay and immersion.
But if Bethesda in Skyrim adresses the issues people have with Oblivion, which I have reason to think they do, since the staff are actively seeking comments on the game in the Skyrim forum, then we would have a game with modern graphics, a better engine and the strenghts of Morrowind, and in that case, I think the Morrowind Modders will move to Skyrim.
Last time I looked at the Fallout modding forum, I saw that the oldest posts on page 1 was a week old, which tells me, the Fallout3 modding has almost stopped after the release of Fallout Las Vegas, which I believe is very similar to Fallout3, so it seems that people will move on, if the new game is good enough.

This is of cause guesswork, since I don't know, if Bethesda will make what morrowinders want, and if the CS will be good enough, but my guess to both questions is yes, eventhough they peobably also will look at what they think the casual players want.

Well im staying with Morrowind, with the current way Bethesda is making games (flashy, shiny, pseudo-epix, awfull dialogs) i doubt skyrim will be better or equal to Morrowind

That poll really does need a both option, though I can't say I would click it without knowing the game.
I think everything boils down to one thing for me: Dialog. The dialog system in oblivion ruined the game for me, even from a modding perspective as that isn't something that can really be fixed by mods. I actually love working with the oblivion CS as it has a lot of handy features, but I refuse to mod a game that is rotten at the core. Really, the skyrim CS could be complete bullocks, but if at its core the game itself is good, I could see myself modding it. (assuming of course that my pre-oblivion PC can even run the game, which it probably can't)
