Will you play daggerfall in preperation for skyrim?

Post » Sat Jul 31, 2010 7:23 am

I've long wished to try it but am both lazy and slow to download content online that I don't have to.

Thanks for making this thread Do'Tirath as it's at least got me to install it.

I got it about a month ago. Just for fun, I got Arena too. I just run around Daggerfall City chopping up people and avoiding the guards:
HALT! HALT! HALT! HALT! HALT!......

I actually play trough all the TES games in preparation for Skyrim.

I started a new character in Daggerfall, because I screwed up the last one. Nobody told me to have at least a small multiplier of magicka as advantage if you want to cast any kind of spells.

Well, I *was* considering it, but have doubts about DOSBox. After seeing those DaggerXL videos, I'm determined to do it. So maybe visit every dungeon and town without using fast travel? See you guys in 2111 :D

I'm regretting that at the moment, I'm wanting to enchant my armor but even my custom soul-trap spell gets absorped.
Also you have to have resist paralysis, so many vampires, nightblades, spiders, liches and scorpions all paralyzing me for something like 10 minutes each time.
Don't punch with rings on, they will break.
Don't steal anything, except at night where you can loot the entire store with you wagon and then sell all the goods back to the owner the next day.
Guild Advancement is based soley on skills, don't bother choosing a quest you've done before.
Some of the dungeons are suprisingly exciting with underwater grottos, levers activating portcullises, levers activating elevators, rotating walls, and rotating platforms. But you soon realise most are randomly generated labyrinthine nightmares.
You can customise the controls for proper WADS firstperson with mouse-look, you just have to have a button to toggle between looking and attacking.
To climb you have to be absolutely face-on to the wall your climbing.
All the loot is levelled, so rob those shops at night when Daedric is available.

Also, make sure you use cheats, I found the game much too hard without them (use dungeon navigation cheats as well).

Dunno. I have tried. Two times. I wanted to play the game since i liked Morrowind and Oblivion and many of the older fans consider Daggerfall to be the superior game but i just can't get into it. It's too dated for me to enjoy i'm afraid.

I was in the process of replaying all the Elder Scrolls games when Skyrim was announced.
I had already finished Arena and Daggerfall and had started Morrowind. I am now playing Oblivion :)
Arena and Daggerfall were a bit tedious, especially Arena, so I doubt I will ever play them again, though I enjoyed revisiting the lore.
It had been awhile since I played Morrowind and it was fun and a refreshing change of pace.

I'm sorry to say, but Skyrim will be nothing like Daggerfall. It probably will be more console like than Oblivion even.

I have it on the mac. Free dosbox for mac downloads are everywhere, and I can't find the link, sorry, but if you can find the boxer front end for dosbox, it does all the installing for you.

seeing as there are giants and spiders returning, it may be good to play daggerfall once more. (these creatures appeared in DF)

goto uesp and daggerfall > files and DL it straight to your desktop with no dosbox shenanigans.

Yes, and thank you for the link.

Tbh, I have a hard time getting back into Daggerfall. It was great for it's time, and I enjoyed it back in the day....but the graphics (and no, I'm not generally a graphics [censored] either, but DF is really dated looking now..it didnt age well at all) and random map kinda frustrate me now.
