seriously though, I always play in english.
I just thought the french version of Oblivion was... weird.
Also, since I'm pretty much the only one who speaks english in my house, I kinda enjoy my parents not knowing what theh ell is going on in my game. I don't want them talking to me about it, it's the only damn thing that makes me escape from them!

I really feel sorry for people who want to learn German as a second language. It's brutal. It's not just that the grammar is hard to learn, but when you finally managed, you find out it's almost useless when you try to understand a German.
Apart from the dozens of dialect, even common slang can ruin your understanding.
I'm quite happy it's my mother-language and I got to learn English as a second, which is rather easy to pick up in comparison. And learning a second (or even third or fourth) language broadens your horizon by a huge amount.

On a side note, I'd like to pre-order Skyrim from the UK, but I don't have a credit card and thus can only use PayPal to pay - can anyone recommend an online store?

I always have English subtitles on, whether it's a game or a movie. Simply because I can't always hear what they are saying. Especially in movies, if they mumble or speak with a dialect.

TES games won't be dubbed in Norway anyway, thank God. The only games I have that are dubbed are Harry Potter games for the PS2. I once watched a clip from the first HP-movie dubbed in Norwegian, it was dreadful. Especially since Norway is such a small country, so it sounds like we only have a handful of voice actors being used for everything.

Well if localization of Skyrim will be good like before for Morrowind I will play at my native language,
if not and it again will be bad like Oblivion one, better to play english version instead.

I think i will play in english because bethesda can′t translate their games to spanish in america.... besides i prefer the original language with subtitles in my own language,but seems like bethesda dont care about their fans in other countries,i think thats a shame :nope:

I understand you, im from mexico, as you say english language is a little bit complex for us,and i dont know why,altough i′ve ever played TES since morrowind in full english since my childhood, so im sure they will never translate to spanish in mexico,but we only need the subtitles i think its quite simple no? pero tienes razón no solo por el hecho de que no es nuestra obligación sino también por que pueden hacerlo y parece que no quieren.

i know.... some games dubbed look so very bad, here in mexico you can recognize their voices, hahaha its like ¨?Wait i remeber that voice,but in what game? i think its fun... and stupid.

The only good game that I played in my own language (French) was Fallout 3, Second being Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast. Didn't sound weird, fortunately. (Most games translated in French, IMO, mostly for male characters, have unmaly voices, if you know what I mean)
I just choose English for practice and all.

I think it's typical of French, they butcher every made up word or phrase when they translate it from another language, instead of leaving it alone. At least that's how it is on every product in Canada. The best example of this: google the translation for Chips Ahoy!

As a language enthusiast, I would love the opportunity to play Oblivion in German. I've had the chance to play other games like FIFA in different languages (one year the language packs were free, the next they cost MS points on XBL). I was disappointed that despite being released in several other languages (with voice actors), you would have had to buy the entire game to get that version. It would be nice to be able to buy a copy of Skyrim and then download whatever language files you please from Bethesda's website.

It's horrible.
As a Frenchman, it sounds incredibly cheesy because it's a word-to-word translation. When it comes to unique names or character surnames, they should always keep it in English and pronounce it in French. Skyrim's french trailer has the narrator say "Skyrim" rather than Bordeciel.

Some years ago, I bought a Forgotten Realms novel and stopped reading after the first pages. Those responsible for the translation did a word-to-word translation of dwarven family names. It was horrible.

At least, when products are translated by French-Canadians, the original English names are kept in English and pronounced in French.




But not the titles developped in Montreal and translated by us French-Canadians.
Ubisoft Montreal does an awesome job at translating their titles.
