Will you be playing in third person?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 8:20 am

Assuming the third-person view is actually made functional, unlike Oblivion and Fallout 3, will you be using it?

Bethesda said they would be greatly improving the third person view, but then again, that's what Obsidian said for NV, and it still svcked.

Based on the guy sneaking in the trailer though, I'd say Bethesda will be true to their word.

I intend to use both first and third person perspectives like in all other Bethesda games I played so far.

I play in first person, usually only switch to third to check my character out every once in a while. Depends on how well it is done for Skyrim but might actually play in third person once in a while, especially to see some of the finishing moves....espeically like the assasination one from the trailor where he sneaks up behind the guy in the pub and slits his throat.

I only use 3rd person when running from point A to B. It's great to take in scenery and see any plants you may have missed (if you do alchemy)
Of course fights will be first person.

First person feels more personal and is the way all rpg's should be played imo. You are playing the story through one created character and so therefore should observe the world through their eyes. At least I will be.

3rd person is good for looking at your armour though

I'd like to answer "no", but the poll option has some additional editorial comments attached.

I'd like to use first person while using magic or fighting, but running and other things like that, I'd rather 3rd person.

I use first person because I think it makes the game world more 'believable'.

I want to play 3rd person, but it's very difficult to play the game that way. You can't view things as well or see/pick up items. So 1st person wins for me. But I hear that it's being overhauled, so who knows?

Yeah I agree. I would say no, but not for the reason appended. I just feel like it gives me more control and is more immersive.
Why not just make the poll say no? Seems like there is a bias there.

Yes, except for a few specific things (screenshooting, stargazing and whatnot). I like to see my character.

I'll use both perspectives but I try to favour third-person as much as possible

I'm a big fan of first-person perspective with immersive games. That said, whenever I get my hands on Skyrim I find myself often switching to third. It's really good.

No. i prefer the experience of 1st person. Though i'll likely switch back and forth now and then.

Well, I guess that confirms that the third person in Skyrim will be very much improved. Thanks!

I've always switched between first and third person view. I'll often run through the wilderness in third person, but I'll always use first person for actual combat.

I was just playing my modded morrowind with an over-the-shoulder 3rd person, and i have to say its a big improvement. i enjoyed watching my character swing and kill things from that point of view. I might play 3rd person more than i previously expected.

i dont know why but i just don't have fun in third person in any game except gears of war. i will only use it to look at my armor. the combat is always wierd with third person in TES games

I wonder how the 3rd person will be... Will it be like in Fallout 3 or Lost Planet?

I almost exclusively played TES games in first person. Only time I use third person is to check out the scenery or my character other than that it's usually kinda clunky.
If it's an over the shoulder view Iike in Fallout then I might use it more often because then I can actually aim stuff.
