Will you scrap everything you see?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 3:53 pm

It would seem a bit odd if you could just scrap a ruined skyscraqer the way he tore down that little prefab house. I'd assume the ability to scrap entire buildings would be severely limited. Otherwise the wasteland would be stripped down to its foundations everywhere.

I assume you can only use the function up to X meter from one of those workbenches, so badically in and arounf those pre designated settlement spots.

Sadly it reminds me of when I'm playing a Skyrim character that's using Alchemy. I have to stop to grab every flower, bug, fish I see and kill everything I can just to get those ingrediants. Never really fun, but necessary. If I have to play every FO4 game like that ... well crap.

I'm hoping more for a loot all the stuff you can carry-haul to base-break down-components stay at base type scenario. In any case random locations will be thoroughly cleansed as well as enemy faction locations. Towns and good guy faction outposts/locations are more or less safe from me. Unless there's something particularly rare floating about. I'm taking that ;)

I plan to take just about everything not nailed down, but not necessarily steal from people. If I find a raider camp and kill them, then I will take what I find, same with any random building. I expect the things to have weight. It sounded as if building material to build your settlement would not add to your carry weight, and with that I will try to be selective in what I dismantle for my settlement. From what we saw at E3 it appears there are 10 different settlement locations or building types.

Anyplace I decide to set up, the surrounding area will be picked clean of smaller crafting items, but I may leave other building elements alone provided I have what I need to build a base, and the surrounding buildings don't impede my defenses.

I'm not sure it is any building, but yes, you can scrap a whole building. In the E3 demo it showed the PC scrapping an entire house at once for raw material.

I think the "break down this shack" option only applies to your settlement areas. I would doubt you could do that with just any building.

I also wonder if you'd need a bench or something to break down items - which would mean you would still need to pay attention to your inventory and carry weight.

Ya I couldnt imagine you can tear down any building interior cells and what not. But I think now we will be seeing some buildings that are in the open world space that can be explored or can be deconstructed.

It depends on a few things. I will try to get into weapon crafting and settlement menus as soon as possible to see what can be build and write down what I will need to look out for. If I can scrap on site and the supplies do not take up weight (or very little weight) I will likely take everything I an get my hands on. If it is something I need to take back to base to break down I will stick to that list of needed supplies.

Regardless I plan to create all my own weapons, home, and if the game allows it armor (not power armor, I do not intend to use that often).

I'll have to see how it works in game, but I suspect not. While making something like raider amour or melee weapons from junk seems to fit the game well, guns and especially energy weapons just seems wrong to me.

I assume the upgrade components will be findable in game as well. So I'll probably limit myself to modifying weapons that way. And maybe some simple home building.

If I remember correctly, the raw materials for building your house or settlement do not count as carry weight, but you might need to have a bench before you can start scrapping things together.

I also don't plan to use much power armor, I much prefer combat armor, and if that can be layered with a duster it would be awesome!

Beginning of the game I usually grab everything I can get my grubby little hands on. If it's a city that I know I will be going back to, to sell things, live at ect I will leave things alone.

Once I have plenty of caps and things I feel I need I start getting a little more selective about what I take.

I have this weird fascination with poking fun at Todd Howard. For anybody else it would be malicious, but for him, I do it with good intentions and a smile on my face.

Yes. If it can be broken down, I'll break it down. Steelements will only be so big, right upuntil someone figures out how to bug it, or mods it so we can build anywhere and I want to be ready for that.

So from the perk chart we see that customized settlements are called "workshop" settlements and workshops have a "transfer" option. So looks like you might have to put hammerspace stuff into a workshop before using it and it gets held there. Not sure about breaking stuff down though, might be able to do that anywhere...

Not really into crafting (other than to modify weapons) or settlement building, so no, I will not scrap everything I see.

Probably won't scrap a single thing after initially seeing how the mechanics work.

I literally have no idea if anyone has said this - but you can only scrap stuff at specific locations like the places allocated to build settlements.
Literally impossiable to see that through any other way..
Probably at your settlement locations, to get you started. Then the rest you scavange or accumulate/create a production line of that material at that settlement.
Bethesda wouldnt go through all that time building a beautifully crafted skyline raider settlement only for someone to come along, dismantle the walls then heard all the enemys into one spot and build a settlement around 'em.
More likely theyve made 3 zones; "**** tonne of enemys and exploration here", "yeah, you can build here, cool br0" and "that irradiated ****hole filled with deathclaws"

Ya, you're likely correct on that. I always assumed settlement size would be some arbitrary number, but it appears that it might have more to do with the area you're renovating. For the purposes of the thread, though, I think he was also talking about grabbing every random object possible for crafting purposes later on.

no, you need to scrap things to make gun parts as they use the same kind of raw materials system as settlements.

well I haven't actually played it but from the demo it appears you can scrap everything IE if you scrap binoculars you get 2 scrap metal and 1 scrap glass but to build a gun scope you need the intact binoculars.
