Will you use the Dragon Shouts?

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 12:48 am

have been lurking for a while before i made a profile a few days ago and this is my first thread, be kind... please? :P

I was just wondering if there are some (like me) that wont use the dragon shouts with a couple of my characters.

for instance, i will be playing a Nord in my second playthrough that is fearful of magic and despises those who use it. and i see the dragon shouts as just another kind of magic, so that character will not ever use it.

wanted to know what you think, if you will/wont use it and why/why not

Yes I will be using the shouts in most of my playthroughs. The only times I won't use them is if I have an RP character that I decide will not be doing the main quest/won't actually become 'Dragonborn'

They have touted shouts as a core mechanic. I'm guesing your character will be gimped without using them. Plus, it's part of who you are as a dragonborn, so I'll be using them every playthrough.

I'm sure i will use them plenty, though perhaps a little less on the sneakier playthroughs where i prefer to avoid combat.

Of course, you might conjure up anything you want in RP fashion but doesn't negate the fact you remain a Dragonborn, thus I will utilize 'em. I mean they have uses for anything, warrior, mage, thief. It's just impossible to ignore those powers. I will use them, yes. Especially for the dragons.

Yeah I will use them every playthrough. I'm not a hardcoe powerplayer but I don't want to handicap myself either because I'll be playing on the hardest difficulty after all.

Even when role playing, I never limit my characters. Ill 100% use dragon shouts on all my play through's, just seems pointless not to use a cool game-play feature just because I don't think my drunken brawler character will have the brain cells to use dragon shouts :P

Heck yes! I want godlike power and the ability to steal spoons! MUAAHAHAHAHAA...

No way! Why would I use dragon shouts in a game that features dragon shouts?

They seem to be a massive part of the game and useful, so I don't see why not.

I'm more interested in knowing as to whether or not they're mandatory for the main quest.

I thought the main point of the game was to be what you want and do what you want.

I'm pretty sure I won't use them on some characters. With a few I won't do the main quest, and at least once I will try to finish the main quest with just melee weapons and bows for the great challenge.

In addition to my main, I will definitely be playing a Thief Assassin that doesn't bother with the main quest. Plus shouting and sneaking don't mix well.

I vote for a

"Derp, why wouldent i use the totally new freaking voice attacks that has been their main marketing plan along with the dragons?"

option. Seems totally weird to ignore such a big thing in the game.

Summoning a dragon and storm call seem too cool to ever pass up. I'll have to see what the rest of the shouts are to determine if there are any more I can't live without.
