Will you use VATS?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 10:21 am

Greeting!

I am curious how many of you use VATS system?

I for one never used it nor in Fallout 3 nor in New Vegas, i just prefer to rely on my own skills and even though i enjoy RPG component of a Fallout i still prefer to play it like a shooter, because i find it more immersive.

Plus let's face it, it makes fights much easier, especially if reloading a weapon still not cost any action points.

PS : There is one assumption i am making, i think Fallout 4 will have true iron-sights, like in New Vegas.

Personally, I did not use VATS often because I used scoped weapons. Interestingly enough, I found that scoped weapons tended to be more accurate through manual aim at very far distances as opposed to using VATS. Additionally, It felt more fulfilling not to become reliant on VATS in combat; I felt it took away the urgency of fights.

Still, it can be useful in particularly tough fights. Especially close-range.

I used it a lot in FO3(in fact it's all I used in combat). In FNV I didn't use it as much since I was a sniper and I don't need VATS to aim at someone head from far away. If I'm spotted I would use it from time to time but with iron sight it wasn't a must.

I always use VATS first, then rely on first person shooting second when I run out of action points. Unless i'm sniping from a distance, obviously. The reason I rely on VATS in FO3 is because the FPS aspect is very choppy and not smooth mechanics. I find I waste and abundance of ammo when I don't use VATS. Now New Vegas did nerf VATS to a degree, but probably for the better. You can become a God in FO3 once you reach a certain level, using VATS. But New Vegas also improved the FPS experience with iron sights and it was more fluid compared to FO3's shooting mechanics. So basically, I will always use Action Points if they are available

I like using vats because i think the idea of the pip boy being able to calculate and aim for you is pretty cool tech. I also enjoy run gun FPS so probably a mix of iron sights and vats depending on current mood.

Greetings...

....yeah I used them most of the times. I hope though, that the VATS here in this F04 will be very different and fresh because I ended up getting tired of using them.

Yes I will use it, but when I do, it's usually only when I'm heavily outnumbered (yes I play a modded game). Sometimes I'll use it purely to find out who's where, and then shoot them without the assistance of vats

For me the biggest downside in not using VATS consist in that your Agility becomes almost useless, since it gives you action points for VATS, which i do not use.

Luckily there is mod called Bullet Time, it slows time and is fueled by your action points, i doubt we will have anything of a sort in the original game, but it certainly will be one of the first mods to come out.

Example of a bullet time mod :

There is no shame, nor any honor in using or not using the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System.

I use it for fun, and to see heads explode in glorious detail.

I only use VATS when absolutely nessesary. Thats usually in the situation where the NPCs gain omniscience and beeline straight for The guy who delivered a headshot with a suppressed rifle in excess of 300 meters.

If The game reserves the right to break suspension of disbelief, so Will I.

Your agility controlled more than VATs though. In older games, it also effected how fast you moved, which... if you ever had an agility of 1, you'd die a horrible death, as you can't get to cover fast enough.

I don't always use targeting systems... but when I do...

It's VATS.

... shoot accurately, my friends.

Depends, if its the same jarring kind of VATS like 3 and NV I wont, but if they redone it to be more keeping with the flow I'll use it.

I used it almost exclusively in F3, but in NV I used Iron sights a fair bit. I think ti was because in F3, your skill affected accuracy in fps mode, whereas in NV it was more about the damage it caused. At low levels in F3 there was no point in trying to aim yourself when there was bullet spray everywhere.

Let's not forget the massive bonus of not being able to be injured properly in F3 VATS.

All things considered, I preferred NV's system.

In previous Fallout games, I always used it as a finisher of sorts. I wouldn't use it if I wouldn't kill someone. That said, the tradition probably started sometime after getting Grim Reaper's sprint.

I'll use it for fun and tricky situations. But especially use it when I'm too lazy to manually target. That's what I love about VATS. I can relax watching nice cinematic kills and still enjoy the game.

If it doesn't crash my game every other time like Fallout 3 did then yes, I love the VATS system.
