William Brandice the Enclave traitor?

Post » Tue Apr 21, 2015 6:33 pm

I have a legitimate question, baffling me to this day, and after a substantial amount of time without playing Fallout 3...

How, in sanity's name, did William Brandice, the dead man found in the Warrington metro... and his likewise deceased family in Grayditch... get to the Capital Wasteland all the way from Control Station ENCLAVE or Navarro... in 30 years?

I've been told the distance between California and Washington D.C is over 4000 kilometers.

I'm a loyal Enclave supporter that tends to appreciate any/all nods to them... but I swear, this one just seems downright impossible to believe.

At the very least, his response to hearing Enclave Radio after all these years, knowing the hell he'd HAVE to of gone through to betray, leave, and flee them... should've been infinitely more dramatic, IMHO.

Thoughts?

The distance between Los Angeles and Washington D.C. is about 2,200 miles. If you walked five or six miles a day you could cover the distance in a year.

Its a bit contrived, yes, but not necessarily impossible.

A bigger question is why he appears so young. If he remembers Richardson, and had a family on the West coast, I would think he'd be close to his 50s at least. But in-game he looks mid-20s. He just doesn't really look the part of an Enclave remnant.

From the terminal entries, it sounds like he didn't head directly head to the East Coast from Navarro, but moved from settlement to settlement, probably staying at each one for a few years before fleeing whenever he felt the Enclave was on his trail, or fearing reprisals from the locals against someone from the Enclave. After years of moving, settling down, and fleeing, he eventually ended up on the East Coast.

It's certainly not impossible, though it would doubt have been a difficult trip after a nuclear war. There probably would have been a lot of nasty locations he'd have to pass through.

The Oregon and California Trails were covered in a few Months by Oxen pulled Wagons, Brahmin are the Fallout Equivalent of an Oxen. From Kansas City East a raft would make avoiding locals somewhat easier. When the Mississippi has been reached it is possible to head up to the Ohio River and travel further East. Getting to DC is easy, not becoming irradiaited is fairly easy, not becoming long pig IMO would be the hardest part of the trip.

He didn't sound like one to me either really. Hell, he didn't even sound like a human being, the way his terminal entries were written.

At least, to me.

Very helpful. Thanks a bunch.

I'm still well, extremely skeptical though. In the context of the post-nuclear age, where his likelihood of surviving such a long and tedious trek is right next to zilch.
