[RELz] Windfall 1.0, second thread

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:30 pm

I downloaded this mod yesterday and started playing it, I must say I am impressed, well done. Just one question, I exited the caverns after I wen through portal, and found Windfall city. The problem is, any NPC I encounter has no option to talk to in dialog boy, except Rumors (not counting guards with their usualy talk about Gray Fox, etc.). I must say I talked to them at night, if that means something. I just started playing this mod, so maybe I missed something, but it was a bit weird to me. Any clues?

When you left the Unknown / Dockside Caves, did you run into Dingbat Ottus?
Spoiler
He has a long speech and it is necessary to trigger off the rest of the dialog.

I also played thru Windfall a little while back and needed help from TESEdit/Files because so many of the journal updates were unclear (I also used the Windfall forums, but couldn't find answers there sometimes). I definitely don't need quest markers, but I do want to be able to walk away from the game for a few days, or weeks, come back and be able to check my quest journal to pick up playing again. Too many of the journal entries gave me nothing pertinent to work with. I also explored the island before delving into the questlines, so when NPCs "revealed" a location to me on my map, but gave me no name for reference, I had to muddle my way through and make guesses about where to go to continue questing.

I really did like the city and island of Windfall. I agree that it was a little bare population-wise, but that didn't bother me too much. What I would have liked to see would be more location markers to use for fast-travel in the city. Having to run back and forth between the rich and poor areas required me to (each time) zone twice and run quite a bit, more if I had to go into the castle. Not everyone is a fast-travel fan, and I use it often but not all the time. Sometimes I would have liked to be able to skip the run through the commerce section of town between the other two areas, or even fast-travel to right outside the castle.

Windfall is cool, but I removed it from my gameplay after a once-thru. I'd be interested in re-adding it again in the future, but I'd like to see some tweaks to the mod before I do.

All in all it's good work.

I definitely agree regarding quest lines, on few occasions after I got an information from NPC regarding quest (who should I look for to continue quest or get further info) if I didn't memorize it in my head I was lost because it didn't went into my journal, and the guy that gave me that information was not giving it anymore, just saying ''I already told you everything I know''. I also noticed there is not much creatures there in the wilderness of the island. That is a minus for this mod, but all in all, after playing it for a while, I must say I am pleased with this mod and posibilities of exploring it gives me, and the overal story behind it, good work that maybe has to be a bit improved to be an excellent mod.

Curious, is there a side to the whole story that is how to put it "the good" path or are all of them going to leave you with dirty hands. So far I've been playing the righteous path which seems to be the path I mots agree with but the lastest task I've been sent on keep getting more and more dirty. It's a bit late now so I don't intend to back out of this path if that is even possible. I'm up to the point of "the frame" so far each task in result seemed to make things for the better but this lastest one is leaving me guessing. Also I went through Elayve, found two remote gates, solved one but the other never found a switch to open it, is it possible to open it or not?

I got arrested by an imperial guard for stealing a horse...and then instead of appearing in the imperial jail, I ended up in some unknown place surrounded by pink goblins and now I appear to be in Windfall, which may I say is fantastic. But...is this how the quest is supposed to begin? I got the impression it may be a bug for some reason. If not then no worries, I'll hang around for a bit and do some quests

Is there any way I can get back to the normal Oblivion world? I went to the docks but there was no option to sail back

This mod really deserves a lot more attention. Seriously It's been in the making since '06, I got to try this after I've finshed Glenvar Castle :)

Hmm. Not sure quite how you got to Windfall that way -- sounds kind of trippy, to be honest. :)

I can only speak from my experience with Windfall. The quest begins in the Market sector of IC and leads you to a cave which eventually dumps you in Windfall. As for travel back, there should be an option at the docks -- if that's not available to you, I'd venture a guess that you're bugged. If all else fails, hopefully you have an earlier save that will allow you to start Windfall the conventional way.

I thought so. It did seem a bit strange to start that way. I'll have to disable the mod and go to an earlier save and hopefully start it properly, thanks :)

Greetings!

Began Windfall some weeks ago. Progressed well enough until hitting a potential brick wall. I've not seen this particular issue mentioned before so I might simply be overlooking something obvious. But if so it's got me stumped for now. Luckily I had much of The Collector (vanilla quest line) to finish. That kept me busy for a while, but ended this afternoon. So it's back to Windfall for me, or will be once I know I can advance again.

Spoiler
I refer to one of the early Righteous quests. I am sent to the Abandoned Cave just outside the Northwest gate. My task is to teach the goblins a lesson or at the very least return with the Shaman's staff. I find the cave easily enough, and have no trouble emptying it of goblins. The shaman falls. It does indeed possess a staff, which I loot. However... I return to the quest-giver. The one text option that refers to this quest, when selected, results in him offering me the quest again. I get no recognition for having the staff, and of course no update. I return to the cave but find no other goblins or staffs.

Is this a bug? If so how do I work around it? If not a bug, how about a nice juicy hint (no spoiler please) to put me on the right track?

Not related to the above...

I still have two very early Windfall quests active in my journal,
Spoiler
"The Search Continues" and "We're Not in Kansas Anymore"
. Considering I've been in Windfall long enough to have completed many of the neutral quests, explored most of the isle(s), and started in on Righteous faction stuff, shouldn't these have disappeared from my active journal?

Thanks in advance!!!!! :)

Am playing Windfall at the moment myself, started at level 2, am having fun currently just exploring the island to get the lay of the land.

Recommend it to anyone looking for something to spend quite a few hours on, especially gratifying to be able to play it at beginning levels.

Based on your description of what happened, I'm not sure why the quest didn't end for you.

I'd suggest you head to the "Windfall" forums and post a query in the "hints, tips, and spoilers" section. The modders visit frequently and answer questions of this nature.

I just finished the main quest of Windfall (and most of the side quests, including the Necro thing) and posted this on Nexus:

10/10 for the effort, size and creativity.

Pros: NO quest marks (+++); believable NPCs (lack of voiced dialogue is actually an advantage); variated AI (making NPCs very difficult to find at times); consistent quests; excellent town and island layout; good dungeons; outstanding puzzles (at least most of them); interesting and non-mundane story-line; very good game and loot balancing.

Cons (none big enough to substract from the rating): some lines can use some spelling; wording is sometimes too modern and the English too Americanized; some items are hard to find (if not impossible); quest log does not update consistently; a couple of puzzles can use a few more hints (had to open CS to see how they worked); conversation can use a few additional lines; nothing to do as a Count (some minor administrative/decissional jobs would be more than welcome, see the basic trade furs/mead in Bloodmoon).

All in one, a great and entertaining experience. I believe it is one of the most elaborated game additions to date.

Thank you!
PKR.

I've been sent to find Narn--this will be my first encounter with him. He's not hanging around any of the inns or shops that I can see. Any ideas?

Without getting into too many specifics, I can save you at least some time -- he's not in the city of Windfall itself.

I got a map marker when I first was dispatched to him... but it didn't have his "name" in the location.

If you get too stumped, try the Windfall boards "hints, tips, and spoilers" section, which helped me on a couple of occasions when I was confused.

Yeah, I found that map marker, after posting, here. It seems a bit odd that it would show up, without having anybody put it there. Since the mod's so good otherwise about maintaining a sense of roleplaying. I suspect it was an oversight. Thanks, anyway.

I'm a little nervous about playing a mod I have to take my own notes for, but it would be far from the first time I've done it.
My question is, is this a mod I can add to an existing game, or do I need to start over to play? I've just come back to Oblivion from a two year break, and I am playing FCOM + just few other mods, have finally worked my way up to something that can actually survive a run between cities, and I don't want to start over if I don't have to.

Also, does anyone know if BOSS will recognize this mod?

Thanks!

You can definitely add the mod to your game on existing saves, and I also remember when I played Windfall BOSS recognized the files

Yes you can, I started windfall very shortly after starting one game and accumulated about 30 hours in Windfall.

Just to add a bit to what phoenix1213 said, you sould be fine at low levels. Just keep in mind disposition is very important in Windfall. Depending on race and class you may need to work a little at the personality traits a bit.

Hi everybody

I was hoping that someone here might be able to help me. I know about the Windfall boards, but they're not very active (and I'm not all that patient ;) ). I have posted there, but thought perhaps asking here might get an answer from someone who's been through it.

Spoiler
I'm playing the side of the Righteous, and have started the Spy quest. Where you get clothes from the seamstress in the Commerce district and go talk to people in Brend's Barrels.
I did the seamstress' quest, and she gave me pants. There's a known bug where if you've said you like violet, you don't get the matching vest (if you're female - I think if you're male it works ok). So, if anyone can give me the item code for the violet vest that you get from her I'd really appreciate it.
On the Windfall official board it's mentioned that this works, but the poster didn't give the code.

I somehow went through an evening's play without a hard save, so I'd have to replay quite a bit if I have to go back to a previous save. Obviously I will, if I have to, but I'd rather just go on from where I am when next I can play.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

Spoiler
Item code for the violet vest is XX0504FE where XX is the load order ID of the esm file.

In the console enter

Player.AddItem XX0504FE, 1
