[RELz] Windfall 1.0, second thread

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:50 pm

Hello Everyone,

I will very likely be away from the boards for several weeks. If you came here looking for help with the mod, please accept my apologies. This is unaviodable.

I was in a bad car accident two days ago. I am fine, but the car is a total loss. Between dealing with the cops, the insurance company, and trying to buy a new car I will be very busy for at least a week or two. This will run into a vacation that planned and paid for several months ago. After tomorrow, I do not believe I will be back on the boards until I return from that on July 21.

Again I do apologize, but this is simply unaviodable.

Good to hear you're not injured Ed!
Especially considering your car is a total loss, you're lucky!
Do you have any other injuries or just a few scratches and bruises?

Take your time to enjoy your holiday (ill be gone next few weeks as well :)) and take your time to get all the work done with the insurance company which can take quite a while and a lot of work.

SPOILERS:

I'm having a problem with the "Ring" quest. (near the end of the Varo's Knights Questline).
Calcentia Romania apparently has the ring, but when I ask her about it she starts talking about some other stuff. Then she won't tell me anything about it. I also searched her house and couldn't find the ring. What am I doing wrong?

Try boosting you disposition with her. I believe you need it above 75 to get the proper response.

Hello all,
Great mod, Ed! Lotsa fun and never a dull moment...
I have a very senior player-character who has been running around Cyrodiil for almost 3 Tamriel years now (over 1000 days, game-time).
This has required some 1657 playing hours real-time! Mostly late at night.
Recently abandoned for the challenges of the DC Wasteland, my guy has now been revived to check out some of the newer quest mods like Windfall.
All the hard work maximizing his stat's out (no cheating) requires my guy now be kept busy, to enjoy the well-earned fruits of all his labour...

I'm off to find this fellow Narn now - and I've met him before! I sold him some shady merchandise at some point, but I can't remember where it was.
If I had to place a bet, I would say it was in the Slum district...?
But reading the forums has pointed me outside of town, with possibly a location having been added? So we'll see.

Everything works great here, no technical issues for me personally, everything functional. :liplick:
Thanks again ed_conn for your hard work,
Regards

Didn`t know about this Mod. Sounds interesting. I have absolutely no problems about no voice dialogue or markers.

Voice dialogue, while nice takes a LOT of effort in that you need actual people to take time out to do them right. I did it once, not so easy and often needs repeating multiple times before the Modder might be happy. Markers? Well some call me hardcoe about my gaming, so be it, my entire Oblivion game is Marker less. I don`t even bother making notes (well hardly ever), although Kyoma`s journal Mod has encouraged me to write more! :P

Good journal entries help, but the map-marker GPS hand holding in default Oblivion was too much for me.

Down loading now to check out!

I think Windfall is wasted on a high level character. It will be much more fun with a fresh character.
Narn can be found in the middle of the island.

And it is a very interesting and quite good mod too, but a little unfinished IMHO.

I fully agree, and I have used DarnUI to completely hide both the quest marker (in hud and maps) and the you-are-here marker.

But Windfall do have its problems. Typically, in a conversation, an NPC may ask you do go to a certain place to do something, and tells you he will mark the location on your map. This sounds fine, but the way Windfall tends to do this is problematic because:

1. The dialog topic cannot be repeated.
2. The Journal hardly tells you anything
3. The only "mark" on the map was that the map marker for that place has become visible - but if you had already been in that area before, the map marker would already be visible, so no sign on the map at all.

So I ended up having to reload the savegame and replay earlier dialog in order to know what to do a few times. This could very easily have been fixed by the journal entry having the name of the map marker.

So I'm a little sad that the Windfall team seems to have abandoned the mod short after release, instead of fixing all the minor bugs/annyoances. Its still a mod I'm glad I installed and play though.

Ah, I see. That would make it harder in an unrealistic way.

I am on "The Date" quest (Varo's Knights version).
Spoiler
I got the sleeping Dunmer in the slums inn basemant, and was told about the smuggling route from the graveyard, through the sewers and into the slums. I found the entrance to the sewers from the graveyard, and followed the trail of skooma to the basemant of the slums arms merchant.
This quest implies I can do more than just obtain information, but
Spoiler
Varo won't acknowledge I found where the Righteous were bringing the skooma in. I even brought skooma from that basemant!

Is there a way to 'complete' this quest to Varo's satisfaction?

I'm currently playing Windfall from the opposing side, but has seen in the CS that the quests are almost identical, so I guess my answer applies for your side too.
Spoiler
After having completed this quest, you'll get a quest where you will have to recruit a spy that can find out where the stuff is brought in. So you're probably not intended to find out for yourself.

Guys,
Playing for the Righteous, I'm having good fun here. :goodjob:
But I have had a quick flurry of assignments, the most recent I recall from the daughter of the rich-section sword merchant, the blond I fixed up in the warehouse guy's home.
Spoiler
She has told me something about road bandits, with further info available from the bartender and Ozkar Myer.
Ozkar says yes, they are west and S/W of the city, from the west-road to the docks. So of course I searched this area!
I did find a couple of undocumented caves, and a pretty lady who likes to sit beside the sea (apparently knitting).
But no road bandits - not even a whiff.

It's all very strange, and I'm probably confused... but I'm stuck here and any suggestions would be gratefully received. :)
I didn't realise this mod was so huge, it's more like an expansion pack!
Hopefully someone will favour me with a hint. I don't know what's going on usually, confused at times and if you go away from this for a few days you're often screwed, as has been noted.
I usually laugh at Walkthroughs - what's the point? LoL, but I sometimes refer to them if stuck in the storyline or just stupid I guess, to determine what's 'supposed' to happen next... like right now!
Thanks for any replies,
Regards

Did you open some of the crates in the basemant? If not, that is the step you are missing.

Did you talk to the bartender at the Inn in the merchant district? If not talk to her.
Spoiler
There is a cave, more like a grotto almost dead south of the city. Start at the docks and walk west along the water line. The entrance should be below water. You will need to keep an eye on the local map is you are using that find the cave. I don't believe I marked it.

I know it appears that Windfall was abandoned. Not entirely true. After the release, I worked on updates for over two months. I am about 1/3 of the way done. But it is a very big project, and even minor updates take considerable time. However, the company I work for was purchased. I am buried in work and I really need to keep my job. I simply haven't had time to finish the updates. I hope to, but unfortunately I can't guarentee it.

Thank you again for all your hard work on the mod, and for your replies on the forums.
I'll check that cave out (I believe I had encountered it previously, but not within the context of this quest).

Don't worry about not working on this for a while. Real life things like keeping a job are much more important. The fact that you were able to create a mod like this at all is incredible. Thanks again so so much for all your hard work on this. I just got done finishing the Order of the Candle quests and I thoroughly enjoyed them. You obviously put a ton of effort into creating this. Good luck with the job and hopefully you get a chance to get that update out sometime!

Hello Ed,

Just would like to thank you for this great mod. Started playing Windfall sometime ago, and the sense of wonder is really impressive : ) Im slowly trying to find out more and more about both sides before deciding which one to join. Its a very welcome change from Oblivion regular monster killing spree. Windfall + Real Sleep Extended + Real Hunger + Kyoma?s Journal mod = One of the most immersive gamming experiences I?ve had in a long time

Great to know that ed_conn is still hoping to polish this wonderful mod further.

I've just had one of the greatest Oblivion experiences in over two years playing thanks to Windfall.
I'm quite a long way into the Righteous side of the story, and I've just been accosted in the street by an NPC who has been
Spoiler
reading my journal

Now this may be a well known technique in RPGs, I'm no expert; but it's a great way of breaking down the 'fourth wall'.

I finished 'The date' quest, and am now on 'A Spy' quest.
Spoiler
I found a potential spy, but was asked to rent a room in the Commerce District. I was directed to Reginald, who runs a general store in the Commerce District. Problem is, Reginald is nowhere to be found. What can I do about this?

Ed,

Wanted to pass along a thanks to you and team for putting together a GREAT mod! Spent the last few weeks playing through some of the "around the town" quests and have now joined Varo's Knights. It's a nice change to be able to spend hours playing through a well-crafted, well-written set of quests (as opposed to the typical blah vanilla quests). I look forward to having getting through the rest of the mod.

For anyone on the fence about downloading this - GET IT and PLAY IT - it's that good.

Since Malchik wrote quests for this mod I just had to play it. :P

So far it has been a lot of fun. The city looks nice and there is a lot of individual dialogue.

Just a few points:

When you meet the guy in the Market District (already forgot his name... Ted?) he misspells the word 'arrangement' as 'arraignment'. Well, arraignment is a word too but I thought arrangement was the intended word here. But I could be wrong.

When you meet mr. Ottus just as you leave the cave that teleports you to Windfall he refers to Alessia Ottus as a male, but Alessia is a female.

Brend (that was his name right?) also had the Brend topic and used it like everyone else, so he was talking about himself in third person and called himself an idiot IIRC. A simple getisid 'Brend' == 0 condition should fix that.

In a cave nearby the city of Windfall, which the player is lead through by following a trail of clutter, there is an empty bottle called 'Hist bottle'. Unless this is related to a quest I haven't started yet, I assume that that potion bottle was supposed to be a regular empty poison bottle.

They're little things that aren't very important and the overall mod seems more or less bug-free, so I don't care. But if you're planning an update it could be worth checking out. :)
