Window Glow mods

Post » Mon May 10, 2010 5:43 am

Once again, i'm reinstalling MW and a big bunch of mods. Morrowind is like Warhammer miniatures, half of the fun is in modding it, to the point i never get to actually play... I have 4 copies of the MW directory for testing different mod combinations.

But on topic. Window glow mods. I know there are two them at least, Windows Glow by Max a.k.a. ~NOBODY~ (and two... sequels? By Colt17 for Solstheim and Mournhold) and Illuminated Windows. I've tried both in the past but i can't remember which one i liked more and if they had some problems and so i'm asking more info and opinions about them.
IIRC i recall correctly, at least one of them wasn't compatible with many city expanders, however, i'm not sure i'll be using those since MCA+Bunch of mods running global scripts+texture replacers already tax my laptop enough, making Balmora even larger for example is not probably a good idea...
Are they compatible with texture replacers? (Going to use either Vibrant Morrowind or Visual pack combo or whatever it was called + some others).
Windows glow had some nasty missing texture, visible on Pelagiad and Ebonhearth inns and no fix that i know of.

Are there any other window glow mods?

I believe that is problem in Windows Glow 2.2. But I prefer the earlier non-flickering windows in version 1.75, which is also free of the problem with the Inns.

Flickering... DId the texture flicker or was there simply such effect?
I hope the old version is available somewhere still *opens TESnexus, PES and Google*
Thanks for telling that!

EDIT Naturally quick search didn't find anything. *Sigh*. I wonder if the texture is included in 2.2 but simply not used by mistake, that'd be easy to fix, no?
EDIT2 Actually, it's not so easy to fix apparently. The Readme for 2.2 has been modified in 5.Jan.2005, same with the mesh and texture directories, but the .esp itself hasn't been modified since 28.Aug.2004. Readme claims the missing texture and inn model have been fixed... well, i don't know if the fix was only including some files, if it required editing .esp too...
Downloaded from PES... i think. Might be that PES, if i did DL it from there, has a wrong version or something. Gotta see if dowoloading it from elsewhere would have newer .esp.
EDIT3 No luck. Hmm... Maybe i'll be using Illuminated Windows, missing textures are really really annoying.

I vaguely remember that it was the model that had the problem, not the texture, but I could be wrong.

Someone noted on PES comments that *something*.nif has missing wood texture or so...
Whatever, i'm not going to start fixing it, i've got some 100 mods to install and tweak already o.O

. . . but the .esp itself hasn't been modified since 28.Aug.2004 . . .

The date of the .esp tells you nothing. A lot of modders use the original date in later versions so that anyone updating from an older version won't have the usual problem with changing the load order.

Umm, yeah, right. Forgot that. Sigh, maybe i'll give the mod a go and see if it actually DOESN'T have the issue. Maybe PES comments were from version 2.0...
Hmm, did Illuminated Windows have any real issues? Someone complained in PES comments for that mod that his save file was 3.5megs, with 2 of that caused by light referrences in Balmora or something like that.

I was actually researching this topic yesterday, and I couldn't find any sort or list or comparison of lighting mods, which was a shame. Maybe this topic can serve that purpose. Anyway some things I found out:

-There are a few window lighting mods:

Windows Glow - replaces window textures with ones that look bright and lit up, but doesn't actually place any real lights in the world.
Modman's Window Lights - places actual lights at the windows at nights. Supposedly works very well together with Windows Glow since they do different things.
Illuminated Windows - I'm not sure if this one places lights (like Modman's) or changes textures (like Windows Glow), or both. This one is recommended by BTB in his mod list.
Spuzzum's Interior Daylight - Seems to be less comprehensive since it only lights up interior windows.

Personally I'm going to use Windows Glow since I really like how it looks, also see below:

- Someone made Windows Glow mods for Tribunal and Bloodmoon, and another person updated the textures to look more natural:

Bloodmoon

Tribunal

Windows Glow Texture Tweaks

That's all I've found so far. Hope more people chip in with links and discussion.

See http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/959039-has-anyone-fixed-32nif-for-windowsglow/ regarding the 32.nif errors from Windows Glow v2.2 and how to fix them. B)

IW Includes Modman's Windowlights.
DLed Spezzum's Interior Daylights too, thought that it probably works with IW.

As for the fix... Nice that you linked it. But i really wonder if'll bother since, as i said, i have a large bunch of mods to test and clean and all. Too bad no one ever uploaded a fix, though i understand if Max doesn't allow that (naturally can't remember copyright info without readme open).
