Windows 7 64 bit crashes

Post » Tue Nov 02, 2010 6:07 pm

Hello,

I have started fallout 3 twice but never got past the first zone. Played it on my old vista computer which never had problems running it. Now that I have a new computer it crashes.

Brief rundown on my specs...

Windows 7 64 bit
Quad core i7 960 3.2 ghz
6 gig ram
1 g ATI 5870

I can start a new game fine play it and save. When I go to load my saved game it will flicker and then crash.
I have downloaded the latest patch for both the game and my video card with no luck. Also tried to play in windowed mode, compatibility mode in vista and xp to no avail.
If you can give me any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I finally have time to play fallout 3 and I really want to play it. Thanks once again.

Have you tried all of the recommendations from this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1127486-fallout-3-goty-windows-7-x64/? I found that turning off HDR seems to help a bit.

I understand the frustration you must be feeling. I've been there myself. For me it works on a Quad Core processor, but not a dual core i5. Both ran 64bit win 7. It seems to me as if it is hit and miss with the processors.

See http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/973552-possible-solutions-to-crashing-other-issues/ thread.

In your case, check for the quad core fix. And if you have an Asus Xonar sound card, check for the related fix.

I have a core i7 860, an nvidia card and win 7 x64 and Fallout 3 crashed one time in 10 hours.

Okay here is what has worked for me. I tried the mutli core fix and that did not seem to help.
What I did find to work though was reducing AA and AF to 0 samples. Hope this helps someone else. :foodndrink:
