Windows 7 fail :(

Post » Mon Mar 29, 2010 11:48 am

Hi guys,

I see that windows 7 64bit is not suported, but I'm hoping someone can help me anyway!

I have an old Collector's edition that i tried to install on my windows 7 64 bit system. When I try and start it it crashes after the the opening credits.
I tried to install the 1.1 patch and it would install due to not recognising a file "there is a file with the same name, but it's not it" or something like that.
I installed patch1.2UK without a problem, but it soesn't help (I'm is Australia so it should eb the right one).
System specs;
Phenom x2 555BE
4Gb RAM
AMD 5770 1GB
Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P

Can anybody help an old guy, with an old copy?

Thanks in advance,

DK

I had a similar problem with my Game of the year edition - until I tried this:
open your Oblivion.ini
scroll to the [audio] section and do this edit

bMusicEnabled=0
bSoundEnabled=1

something about win7/64 and the music, enabled me to start a new game.

Don't forget to install the latest patch first.

You can install the collector's edition on Win XP without any problem I think instead I suggest that you should get a copy (cheap) of Oblivion GOTY version.
If I were you I would definitely buy a new copy of Oblivion GOTY (Retail) or visit Steam just to look what they might have to offer.

However there is another solution if you have Windows7 Pro Edition and that's to use the integrated XP emulation to run games under XP environment.

One thing I didn't notice mentioned...

When you install any version of Oblivion on a Windows 7 or Vista machine, you DO NOT want to accept the default installation directory (folder). That can cause all sorts of problems. Install the game somewhere else. Something like C:\Games\Oblivion or even on another partition/drive.

Thanks for the replies guys, but unfortunately nothing is working. I'm now waiting for a reply from 2K games.
I want a definate answer from them before I buy a GOTY edition.

Cheers,
