Windows XP Game Crashing

Post » Fri Jan 28, 2011 2:57 am

After seeing many friends and family play this game, I've been trying to on my home PC now for several days. I've reinstalled the game 3 times, and tried everything i can find to get it to work properly, but to no avail. My problem is, upon leaving the vault, the game will randomly crash(for no apparent reason), giving me no warning, no failed protocol, nothing. Just running around in game, WHAM!, crash to desktop like the game was never running.

Intel Pentium 4 3.00Ghz
1.00GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3

I know I could use some more RAM(or just a better PC), but I should have no problem running the game. It runs smoothly, and perfectly fine, until it crashes. And it's nothing specific that's causing the crash. First time, I was looking at the Elementary School. Second time, I just opened up a lockpicking attempt. Third, I was running down a hill towards an enemy. And it's random how long the game will run before it locks up. I know it's not a save game issue(again, reinstalled and started from scratch 3 separate times already).

Anyways, any help as to why this game is about as useful as a paper weight or a target for my BB gun, would be greatly appreciated. I would like to be able to enjoy it.

Okay, I might have jumped the gun. Just tried to play it again, it crashed after about 3 minutes. I haven't restarted my computer since last night. I'm going to restart and play the game again and see what happens. I'm really beginning to wonder what is causing all these crashes. Is there any way to tell if it's a memory leak somewhere?

Okay, I restarted my PC, and ran CCleaner to get rid of all my temp files and everything. Game worked fine for about 5 hours, than completely locked up my system. I'm cool with that(i spam autosave every 5 minutes). But it still svcks cause it means there's something causing it. And it's got to be related to my PC, cause my dads ran it no problem just fine(Dual core, 9800 GT nvidia, 4GB RAM, Windows 7). His is new, mines about 5 years old now.
