[RELZ] Windows Glow expansion

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:44 am

I got a recent interest in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1001598-wipz-more-realistic-environment-video-included/page__view__findpost__p__16612417 about continuing/expanding Zich's work, and I found I think what is a good compromise to add Zich's exterior lightning concept seamlessly to Windows Glow by Max a.k.a. ~NOBODY~.

As used method allows to change in TESCS just a single window mesh via search/replace ex_nord_win_01, ex_nord_win_02 (no light hand placing needed), dynamic scripting used here could be easily adapted to Zich's window mesh if desired/permission given.

Enjoy :) and feel free to sack the scripts (P.S. it is not that I love trig, but PlaceAtMe is definitely not reliable enough)

readme:

**********************************************************************
The Elder Scrolls III MORROWIND:

Windows glow expansion

by abot

Tribunal or Bloodmoon engine required
**********************************************************************

Replaces ex_nord_win_01, ex_nord_win_02 with scripted dynamic glowing windows
& lights, affecting mostly Seyda Neen, Pelagiad, Caldera, Dagon Fel.

Compatible/expansion to Windows Glow by Max a.k.a. ~NOBODY~
Compatible with Spuzzum's interior daylights, though both mods will add
lights to interiors.

This mod can be used alone, but it works better as expansion to Windows Glow,
especially in Pelagiad and Caldera.

Changes:
Version 1.1
- changed scripts to never delete not illuminated windows, should be less
sensible to mod reordering.

Credits:
textures & original mesh swapping concept: Max a.k.a. ~NOBODY~
textures: Acrilix
exterior lights inspiration : Zich

I have used also a tx_glass_reena_01 texture, can't find from what mod/resource
it comes from, if you know, please inform me.

Tech info / tweaks:
You can disable the dynamic lights and keep only the glow effect opening the
game console and entering:
set ab01wgLightsOff to 1

to see placed lights markers, type
set ab01debug to 26

setting values back to 0 will reset do default behavior (lights on, debug off)

Enjoy!

@abot: Cool! You know, http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/user/1764-max-aka-nobody/ hangs out on the forums still. Maybe he would be interested in working with you to update all of Windows Glow with Zich's methods?

That's definitely cool. Zich's work really impressed me, and I think it's good to see anything that's still building off of it.

Excellent! Thank you very much abot!

Does it requires the original Windows Glow mod, or yours can be used alone?

BTW, not sure it may be useful, but there was a fixed tavern mesh for Windows Glow 2.2 uploaded on PES recently. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8754.

Wow! Very nice add-on for the 'Windows Glow' mod, for a more immersive and beautiful game! Just perfect, run flawlessly, great work! : )
Thanks for creating this great mod add-on! ^____^

I'm a bit confused, what is the difference between what this mod does and what the normal Window Glow mod does?

This mod deals with the two nord style windows not covered already by Windows Glow, replacing them with windows in same style as Windows Glow, adding (if enabled) lights instead of only glow. So you have a uniform windows style in Caldera, Seyda Neen, Pelagiad, Dagon Fel.

I'd like to know if I should use this mod (and the Windows Glow mod and it's other additions) , or should I use Illuminated Windows? What would your recommendations be?

That's clear now, thank you both!

My opinion...
Illuminated Windows changes the lighting in a more extreme way, and it can be quite demanding on the FPS for some computers. But it does look great and is a bit more in depth, as it makes more changes to the lighting in the world overall. It also doesn't make windows glow in interiors.
It also adds some objects to some of the towns (like more plants and lanterns) to add more atmosphere.

Windows Glow is less intrusive, but the glowing effect on the windows is superior. (interior and exterior)

That's really weird! The version I have DOES make those interior windows glow.

Oh, you're probably right. It's been awhile since I had it installed. But the glow effect in no where near as noticeable and realistic as Windows Glow.

Just a small bump for the update, it should be less sensible to mod reordering.
