my first computer i bought had millenium............ok nuff said about that disaster. switched to XP and had no issues. i passed over vista because that was horrendous and now i have windows 7 which is greats. they seem to have a good then bad then good then bad etc. thing going on. i really want windows 8 to be good because it supports ARM processors but ..............eh. im afraid of another millenium. has microsoft learned their lesson or is this cycle doomed to continue forever.

Vista SP2 = Windows 7 minus some Aero tricks. It's amazing how much people just say "Vista svcks, Windows 7 is awesome" when Windows 7 is basically Vista in a new suit. Don't get me wrong: Vista originally was delivered in a very bad way: MS didn't go after companies for good driver support, they allowed companies to release Vista on sub-par hardware, and they didn't do nearly enough marketing, but modern Vista is near-identical to Windows 7 underneath it all.

Also: ARM support doesn't mean jack diddly. You probably won't ever see an ARM-based Windows desktop, and because ARM is a different architecture than Intel-based CPUs, it means that no program that works on your current desktop install are going to work on ARM Windows out of the hood -- they won't work until they get recompiled against ARM. More than likely only netbook and tablet versions of WIndows 8 will use the ARM architecture.

Even Microsoft has admitted that Vista was a real flop, so the next Windows version would be a surprise if they do it better than they did with Windows7 I suppose.

Microsoft admits that Vista was a marketing and release flop, which is undeniably true. However, while Vista as a product was a flop, Windows 7 proves Vista as a concept was not --- No matter how many ways you spin it, Windows 7 is Vista with a few new Aero tricks.

DoS, Windows 3.1, a titanic piece of [censored] that ran ON DoS, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME <--- All crap.

Windows XP <--- Awesome

Windows Vista <--- Eh. Mixed results, more or less based on hardware.

Windows 7 <--- Works pretty great, good stability and compatability.

I say their track record is looking up. I wouldn't be worried about any less than Vista Quality.

DOS and Windows 98 were good. :(

Windows 8 is licking Apple's hind, I'm not holdnig my breath. Of course that's over simplifing.

Pretty much what Defron said. But I'm skeptical to M$'s direction.

And what are your reasons for not liking how Windows has come along?

Not that I have to answer this, but just for fun, bloated GUI, unnecessarily increased system requirements, incompatible with older games (can still play my old Doom, C&C, ROTT, etc. on XP.. can't on Vista nor 7) -- I just refuse to purchase the same games over and over or try and use horrible programs that try to emulate DOS.. instead I'll keep the same OS. My laptop came with Windows 7, and XP discs. I upgraded to XP. Desktop I built last myself uses XP for 5 years now. Wife uses Vista on desktop and 7 on laptop. Ironically I find myself fixing countless driver issues with both her machines whereas I'm fine. Therefore, for someone like me, the next Windows 8 will svck too. I can keep going but I'll leave it at that.

You know that XP does a terrible job of emulating DOS, right? You're better off using DOSbox on XP anyways. I haven't run into any game I can't run on Windows 7, except 16-bit games.... but that's a limitation of the 64-bit architecture rather than the OS itself.

I have less problems with drivers on Windows 7, because it downloads most of them automatically. When I used XP I had to burn my network drivers to a CD and install them separately every time I formatted, just so I could spend another hour hunting down all the other drivers I need.

Win 8---not another Windows OS update  . If this keeps up I'll never be able to continue using some of my old software like Paint Shop Pro...it works on Win 7 but bairly and not only that Win7 is a decent OS but even I have problems with it (corrupting files, pixilating my digital artwork). This is one of the major reasons why I'm not a heavy PC user.

Usually every second Windows svcks.

7: Good
Vista: Bad
XP: Good
ME: Bad
98: Good
95 :Bad

So based on the trend 8 will svck :hehe:

lol looks like I had all the crappy ones and none of the good ones, except for 7 of course.

I quite disagree there. Windows 2000 is basically XP without the extra fluff, which makes it my favorite Windows of all time.

Windows 2000 = NT 5.0
Windows XP = NT 5.1

I think windows 2000 was definently a dark horse. I used it all the way up until windows 7 came out.
Windows 2000 is the best OS that has dos, for sure. ME wasn't that great.
