Windows Mouse Cursor Appearing

Post » Wed Jan 13, 2016 9:53 pm

I am seeking some assistance with an issue where the windows 10 mouse cursor appears in-game after what sounds like a USB Connection/Disconnection. The windows cursor does appear to impact the in-game cursor, but the game is still playable, providing your ok with "miss-clicks" every few minutes.

I have tracked the USB Connection/Disconnection to the VIA HD Audio, and did notice this connection/disconnection noise started about a month ago, but it didn't actually impact anything. Of course, that all changed when I started playing Fallout 4 as the above problem only happens in FO4.

I have updated drivers, reinstalled Windows 10, etc but the problem remains. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have another USB port to test the mouse.

Or another mouse to test the USB port.

Also, make sure there are no background apps that are running that want to take focus. Probably not the issue here but you can always try a clean boot to test that.

Finally, if this is a wireless mouse, then make sure the batteries are fresh.

Yea try another port. That's the simplest way to track this down. Also the batteries.

Thanks for the prompt responses guys but it's actually not the mouse, it's the onboard sound card that windows 10 decided it should start "detecting".

OK, this is weird. Wonder why the cursor is popping up...

Anyway, have you tried all the usual things, making sure your speakers are the default playback (or headset if you use that) etc.

Try a clean boot

Long shot but see if you have any media players other than Windows Media Player. If you do, make sure WMP is set to be the default playback device for MP3 files.

Possibly the software for the sound card or the error message might be trying to take the control of the cursor from the game

I had this bug when my mouse was malfunctioning. I fixed it by getting a wireless mouse.

For your soundcard, I would assume that you need a new one. Unfortunately, there is no way to get rid of that $$#@ing cursor without Quicksaving and restarting Fallout.

Thanks guys for the support.

You might be right Fyrstar, but I just can't help but blame Windows 10 for a bit longer. I have read a lot of articles where Windows 10 and the VIA HD Audio simply don't play nice.

I can't bring myself to want to replace the motherboard at the moment so I guess I will go with the flow until it either claps out totally or until a new driver is released that resolves the issue (should it be software orientated).

Thanks again to everyone for your assistance, much appreciated.

You can't go wrong with a PCI-E soundcard. Had my Soundblaster X-Fi for a couple of years now and it's great. Takes a little load of the CPU also, as it doesn't have to use onboard sound.

On my Realtek onboard sound, the intro video for Batman Arkham City used to have bad audio stutter/pop before I got my soundcard. Just one example of where I personally saw improvement.

Anything that takes away system resources such as sound, or virtual memory, and moves to dedicated is a good thing. More RAM > virtual HDD memory. Soundcard > onboard audio.
