I bought the PC DVD GOTY Edition in 2007. I have been playing it on my Toshiba Satellite laptop, but before that an old Acer laptop. They both ran VIsta but when I tried to play a saved game (very far into the game) on my Toshiba laptop it would lock up and close).
NOW, I have installed it on my new PC; a Compaq running Windows 7. Install went fine...I did not save it under Program Files as instructed by someone helping with a similar issue on another post. The beginning screen comes up and I hit PLAY. A small black screen opens in the upper left hand corner and then a system window comes up and says "Oblivion has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Because I don't have a video card? My Toshiba laptop running Vista doesn't appear to have one either...any ideas how I could play it on there?

IT probably had an integrated chipset that was not made by INTEL --- Intel graphics chipsets do not have Hardware support for Transform and lighting (intel instead does this in software rather than hardware) and many of the current games require Hardware transform and lighting support and run a check for compatibility when launched and will error out like you are experiencing when that check fails. Most other graphics chipsets have supported Hardware transform and lighting for Years now but INTEL still refuses to follow suit (though the newest Intel chipsets are now supporting it )

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to bypass the check other than running a virtual machine that fakes support but in most cases that will severely impact performance to a point where even though the game will start it is still not playable !
