WINE ubuntu

I've almost given up on this, I switched to Linux ubuntu and I won't switch back but I'd still like to play Morrowind. I can play Oblivion fine but it doesn't keep my interest. I've installed Morrowind and everything works just fine, except I can't load a save game. Which basically means I can't play. I was hoping someone had the same problem and could give me a fix for it.

I'd be very interested in this as well, I'm having the same issue.

I *think* it's got something to do with how the game determines what location to read a save file from.

I really have no clue though.

Check that you have the newest version of wine. Apparently, loading saves is not possible if you have anything before 1.1.2.

Hope this helps :)

I had the newest WINE release, now I have the beta release, still have the same problem. If the2crow is right though it might have something to do with using play on linux in conjunction to WINE. It makes WINE easy to use but I think it changes the directories that the games are installed in. If he doesn't reply before I have some free time I might uninstall everything and try without play on linux

I've been using Morrowind on Linux under Wine, since version 0.96 or so, and I've never had any problems loading a save, so I'm not sure what Caz is referring to. I've never tried play on linux, so I'm not sure if that's part of the problem.

But anyway, I know of quite a few people who are successful running Morrowind under Wine, so the chances are you will be able to get it to work.

Just use Wine, I'd say. I used to run Morrowind on Linux too. Saves weren't a problem, as far as I recall, although the game did tend to crash more often than under Windows.

I was looking at a list of known issues on the uesp wiki, I've only tried to run Morrowind once under Linux and that was on my laptop which couldn't handle it anyway. I'd like to know how it goes anyway in case I decide to install it on my desktop :)

I've run Morrowind under Ubuntu using Wine in the past but not recently. I have never used Play on Linux or anything else, always just stock Wine, and everything seemed to work perfectly for me. What happens when you try to load a save? The process crashes?
