Winter has become much more difficult.

Post » Sat Apr 30, 2011 4:21 am

I find as I get older (only 22) my love for winter dwindles. I love the winter seasons. I love snowboarding, I love having a smoke outside when it's snowing. I love how the flood lights in my apartment building parking lot//park light up the snow as it fails. Over the years, I notice myself always having a bit more trouble with cold weather. I used to a couple years ago, go snowboarding in a t-shirt, jeans, gloves and hat. My body stayed warm, and I never got sick. I can still handle the cold, however I do like being a little more bundled up, a nice coat or thick sweater.

But since i'v developed CTS, I find it gets harder and harder each DAY, let alone each year. With the deadened nerves in my hand, I'd expect to feel less, but the cold now seems to cause an untold amount of pain, even when i'm outside for only 10 minutes at a time. I really noticed this today when grocery shopping and walking home, having my hand exposed to the elements, and the wind. I'v been inside approx. 30 minutes, and yet my hand still hurts, and it still feels like it's stuck outside in the cold. My hand now loses almost all motor control when it's cold (a little more severe then if you are outside in the cold with arthritis and have trouble moving your hand.). Even with gloves, more than 15 minutes causes it, and it's getting much harder to deal with life, especially when having to job hunt.

Just thought i'd share my experiences. (: Anyone else get this kind of thing happening to them?

ever since I was a kid (leg surgery) for the the past 20+ years winter has been rough on my feet.

Smoking caused poor circulation over the years. But having CTS has caused it to get so much worse.

I'm similar, except for me it's just, y'know...getting old. I used to be able to run around in dead of winter in shorts & flip flops. Now I want to jack up the heater. *cries* ;)
Granted, like most middle-aged folk, I'm not in the condition I was in at 15, 18, 25, but I'm not that bad/far away from it either...the sensitivity to cold even relative to other conditions seems rapid and inescapable the past few years.

I have a light case of winter depression which is bassically involves feeling sluggish, tired, anxious and just down right depressed every couple days. Its ussually not too bad and it doesnt affect other people around me I'm just less of a fun person when it gets me. I also feel like crap because I have not gone running since the 1st snow fall, I haven't gained any weight (I actually lost some which worries me because I haven't done anything), I just cant eat as much as I used to when I would run and burn it off :( I'm too stuborn to get a gym membership or a home treadmill and running in the cold snow worrying if I'm going to slip doesnt sound like fun either.

I accepted the svckage of winters a long time ago, when I was still a kid. I realised that humans simply did not evolve to live in such conditions posed by harsh blizzardly winters. None of you are getting old nor suffering from random diseases, you're just coming to your senses. ;)

Despite having lived in Northern Norway my entire life, where the winter is pretty cold and long-lasting (approximately October - April), I still don't find myself used to it. I hate winter, I hate cold weather, and I even hate skiing (quite out of character for a Norwegian), so there's really nothing positive about it for me. I long for the day I can move to somewhere warmer with a much shorter winter. I think I'll move further south to study, where at least the summer is warmer, then I'll probably move abroad afterwards.

Heh it's the opposite for me.

I used to hate Winter as a kid, now I love it and it's pretty much my favourite season after Fall.
Taking a walk on a winter night is always enjoyable since you're pretty much alone in the streets. It's relaxing. When you add snowfall in the mix, it's even better.

I don't do any winter sports, except shoveling snow for the car during storms. I love it, really. :D

I've been experiencing something similar recently myself. It used to be that winter was my absolute favorite season, but I've found that in the past couple of years I've come enjoy fall more than winter. It's the short days that I'm not fond of; and Fall gives me cooler temperatures, more rain(the reasons I enjoyed winter), and night doesn't come too early. Plus pretty leaves.

Things might change, though, if I move somewhere that it snows frequently during winter. I LOVE snow, it makes night look so beautiful(especially if the moon's full).

I gotta say there is nothing fun about winter at all. It's the worst season bar none. I hate the cold and the snow. :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear:

Winter is easy for me, snow and cold doesn't really affect me, I can hold snow and have snowballs fights gloveless, in a t-shirt and jeans, while my friends have to have multiple layers maybe its a Nordic quality? :P. I think of it as a blessing. This is kinda weird though, seeing as my whole immediate family is from Miami, my brothers are the same way.

I love the chill of winter down my spine. The palpable sense of heat clinging to parts of my body and being lost in others. The strange, constant fight my body puts up with the bitter cold.

I still wear gym shorts in forty degree weather, and I can go with just a tee-shirt in thirty degree weather.

I bounce out of bed, grab a hot shower, enjoy the cool air, and get dressed. I like the winter. Don't have to deal with the oppressive, energy sapping heat of our humid summers.
Granted, sometimes my ankle that I broke hurts, or I get a headcold, but I far prefer winter over summer. ALways have.

Winter is even bad if you're not the least bit sick. We're just not made to go out during winter, that's when only the toughest would venture out once food stores ran low. We should just all sit together around the warm and shiny things inside.

I love winter! Every year, once it's the first 40 degree weather of the season, I practically walk around outside in the shortest and thinnest cloths I have. Allows me to get my hypothermia of the year, so the coldness doesn't affect me in the slightest as it starts to reach the single digits and below. It has been working for years now, so it looks like I'm doing something right.

I moved away from wintery parts and find that I miss the snow and the cold. Though I like warm mild weather too, when I was back home I always hated seeing a lack of snow and temperatures above zero in the winter.
