{WIP}Mantel Weaponry

Post » Tue Dec 07, 2010 12:43 pm

A request I made ended turning into a WIP by me as well. Ironic aint it.

Anyhoo, on to the goods.

I am taking a small break from my Enrom project and taking this as a chance to regain my thoughts and direction on where I want to take it. So, what we have here is something a bit interesting.

wondering through the inter webs, I came across an image of the Mantel assault rifle (names the BSW 72) from the game Haze. I liked it, found all the remaining weapons, like the shotgun, sniper, etc, and made myself a request thread, as I had never made a gun model in my 2 years of modeling. sure enough though, I took a stab at it just for kicks. And the rest, as they say, is history.

So where do we stand?

Currently, I have the assault rifle done, 100% textures and all (see pictures) and the sniper rifle at about 75% (Still needs texture work). The weapons, once completed (all the ones I feel like doing) will be placed in a new government storage facility, aged 200 years to perfection, and now have fallen into the hands of some greedy raiders. More in the back story.

Back story... (Whoda thunk it)

Back before the war, the government was working on some prototype weapons. (Take a stab at what weapons) The weapons reached the final prototype stage, and were shipped off to Fort Constantine for holding till a weapons demonstration was to be conducted. Though there is one problem. The weapons were never on the truck! Where were they taken? That is something you will have to find out on your own.

Features:
- 48 Ammo crates (Safe to store things in)
--- 24 5.56mm
--- 12 10mm
--- 12 .308
- Depleted Uranium dispensers(since you cant find the ammo in the normal game)
- 5 Storage Lockers
--- Other misc storage locations
- Beds/Food/Water
- Defenses for whatever reason

Okie dokie, all that mumbo jumbo aside, time for the good stuff. Screen shots!

Small request:
I though it would be cool to mimic the effects of the nector, but I have not actually played the game, so I do not know exactly what it does. If someone could give me a description of what all it does, then i might be able to mimic it as an added bonus.

And there you have it.

Very Nice!

Any chance on pristine skins as well for weapons that were locked away somewhere from the effects of rust?

:foodndrink:

Great Job!

Congrats Echo on figuring out how to use Blender..... :banghead:

I find it at least 90x harder to use than 3dsmax...... :ahhh:

I've been using 3dsMax since back when it was called 3D Studio (DOS), and I couldn't for the life of me, figure out blender

Blender is just way different from anything else,
afaik(i'm PROBABLY not going to torrent 3DS, and i'm NOT going to buy it.)
but i cant be sure.
i started with it, so its easier to learn.
(technically i started with Google Sketchup, but thats just embarrassing.)

Looks pretty good man. A suggestion on the texturing though. Usually things tend to look more beat up or chipped towards the edges, not to mention it helps define the edges a bit more as well. Get some good scratch/grunge brushes and paint along the edges, mainly hard corners and such. It makes a world of difference.

I'd like this, too. It would go along with the stealth suit quite nicely, being 'clean' and pristine.
And, y'know, preserved. lol

And I find it the other way around =P Ive tried 3DS Max and it confused the hell out of me.

I am no genius texturer. I svck horribly actually. If I could paint directly on the model, then I would be able to do much better, but alas, I cant with my current tools.

I originally tryed to match it, but it didn't work out to well, lol. Ill keep trying though.

Okie, what do you guys think of this? http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b200/staplehead78/Fallout/Fallout32009-02-1313-04-06-40.jpg

Black like it hasnt really been used, but still a little worn down from aging.

Are you sure you want to peek into my work methods? lol. The UV maps are... well, lets say they just ain't pretty, been ran over by a steamroller, and pooped on by 10 dogs. XD

And the textures are just the same thing, sept 2 of them have yellow strips through them.

Nobody does that I guess.

chip off some black pain on the corners, assuming the gun is made of metal and not some synthetic.

@Echonite: call it a challenge :P

Well, the assault rifle has like, 15 parts, and the UVs are all strung all over the place.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b200/staplehead78/9.jpg

If I export the UVs, then they get all jumbled up and confusing as hell to work with.

Now my sniper on the other hand, thatone I could export the UVs, but theres like... 20+ parts. I didnt want to join them all together, then it would have been even harder to deal with the UV.

How about i just give you the nif and let you deal with the UV exporting? lol

Here it is if you want it. (If you have no business with it, don't bother downloading. Its useless to you)

Just a little point-out incase you havn't noticed it yet, you spelt "Mantel" wrong in your picture. Other than that the guns look really good. :tops: Can't wait till I get my new PC set up. :)

Nif is fun but I rather have the .obj file to redo the UV is that's alright with you. Importing the Nif only adds another step to screw up the model horribly... At least that's my experience with exporters for game engines but haven't looked to much in the newer versions of Nifscope so I could be wrong.

You should add a drug called nectar.

Use it too much and you go on a rage and it says everyone is an enemy.
